Abstract

A method for navigating among documents is disclosed, the method comprising graphically representing a first document vector grouping a first plurality of documents having a first attribute in common, graphically representing a second document vector grouping a second plurality of documents having a second attribute associated therewith, the second document vector intersecting the first document vector at the first intersecting location, graphically representing a third document vector grouping a third plurality of documents having a third attribute associated therewith, the third document vector intersecting the second document vector at a second intersecting location and enabling sequential navigation from one intersecting location to another intersecting location by selecting a command. A method enabling movement of a first document vector without enabling movement of a second document vector is also disclosed. A method for displaying document vectors with an enlarged document representation is also disclosed.

49. A computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions for implementing a method for navigating among documents, the method comprising:

graphically representing a first document vector grouping documents;

graphically representing a second document vector grouping documents having a first attribute in common, the second document vector intersecting the first document vector at the first intersecting location;

graphically representing a third document vector grouping documents having a second attribute in common, the third document vector intersecting the second document vector at a second intersecting location; and

enabling sequential navigation from one intersecting location to another intersecting location by selecting a command.

50. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 49, wherein the intersecting locations are, respectively, documents disposed on the document vectors.

51. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 49, wherein the intersecting location is a document from a document vector.

52. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 51, comprising selecting a document on the first document vector, the document being the first intersecting location.

53. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 49, comprising selecting an attribute associated with at least one document from the first document vector, the at least one document from the first document vector being the first intersection location.

54. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 53, wherein the attribute is graphically associated with the at least one document from the first document vector.

55. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 49, wherein the command is one of a forward and a rearward command.

56. A computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions for implementing a method for manipulating document vectors, the method comprising:

displaying a first document vector grouping documents;

selecting an attribute associated with at least one of the documents;

enabling a second document vector grouping documents having the attribute in common;

displaying the second document vector intersecting the first document vector; and

enabling a longitudinal movement of the second document vector without enabling a lateral movement of the first document vector.

57. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 55, wherein displaying the second document vector intersecting the first document vector, the first document vector and the second document vector being generally coplanar but in the neighborhood of the intersection.

58. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 55, comprising graphically identifying the intersection on at least one of the first document vector and the second document vector.

56-1. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 55, wherein the first document vector and the second document vector are not coplanar.

59. A computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions for implementing a method for manipulating document vectors, the method comprising:

displaying a first document vector grouping documents;

a second document vector grouping documents having at least one attribute in common;

displaying the second document vector intersecting the first document vector;

connecting the first document vector and the second document vector;

enabling a representation of an enlarged document on a first lateral side of the first document vector and on a first lateral side of the second document vector;

enabling a movement of the second document vector in a first longitudinal direction moving the first document vector toward the representation of the enlarged document; and

shifting the representation of the enlarged document on the display from the first lateral side of the first document vector to a second lateral side, opposed to the first lateral side, of the first document vector.

60. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 59, wherein the representation of the enlarged document is a magnified image of a document from one of the first document vector and the second document vector.

61. The computer-readable medium comprising computer-readable instructions of claim 59, wherein the representation of the enlarged document is a magnified image of a document not visible on one of the first document vector and the second document vector.
