Abstract

The present invention relates to image displays and signage, and more particularly, to displays of custom or arbitrary shape. Such shaped displays include channel letter displays, logo or design displays, multiple displays in an assembly, multiple display modules, curved or round displays, or other arbitrary shaped or unusual aspect ratio displays. The present invention further relates to software, apparatus, and methods for a translation table which maps graphical data from an initial shape to an arbitrary shape for use on such displays.

Claims

1. Software for creating a translation table for mapping image data from:

one shape to a different shape.

2. Software for creating at least one translation table, the software comprising:

a. indexing and mapping operations;

b. preparing and transmitting mapping data; and

,

c. data integrity verification operations.

3. The software of claim 2, further comprising operations for preparing and transmitting mapped graphical data.

4. Translation table apparatus comprising at least one memory device where software for creating a translation table is stored on or in the memory device.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, further comprising graphical display apparatus wherein said translation table apparatus is a component of the graphical display apparatus.

6. Translation table apparatus comprising at least one memory device where at least one translation table is stored on or in the memory device.

7. A method for displaying graphical data on a display of arbitrary shape comprising the steps of:

a. providing a graphical display station, graphical data, a preprocessing computer, and a translation table;

b. loading the graphical data into memory on the preprocessing computer;

c. loading the translation table into a memory device on the preprocessing computer; and

,

d. using the translation table to map the graphical data for display on the display station.

8. A method for preparing a translation table comprising the steps of:

a. providing a preprocessing computer, graphical display shape parameters, and software for creating a translation table;

b. loading the software for creating a translation table into the preprocessing computer;

c. loading the display shape parameters into the preprocessing computer; and

,

d. using the software for creating a translation table to create a translation table corresponding to the display shape parameters.

9. A method for displaying graphical data on a display of arbitrary shape comprising the steps of:

a. providing graphical data, a graphical display, and a translation table;

b. using the translation table to map the graphical data; and

,

c. transmitting the mapped graphical data to the graphical display.
