Abstract

A system 100 includes a first content delivery network 280(1) for a first type of user device, a second content delivery network 280(n) for a second type of user device and a content repository 274 communicating with the first content delivery network 280(1) and the second content delivery network 280(n). The first content is in a first format associated with the first content delivery network 280(1) and a second content associated with the second content delivery network 280(n). A content management system 221 generates a first content list for the first content delivery network 280 and generates a second content list for the second content delivery network 280(n). A content distribution system 260 communicates with the content management system and the first content delivery network and the second content delivery network. The content distribution system 260 transfers content to the first and second content delivery network from the content repository. The first content delivery network 280(1) publishes the content according to a publication start time. The first content delivery network 280(1) communicates the first content list to a first user device. The second content delivery network 280(n) communicates the second content list to a second user device.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

establishing a first content delivery network for a first type of user device and a second content delivery network for a second type of user device;

storing first content in a first format associated with the first network and a second content associated with the second network;

generating a first content list for the first content delivery network;

generating a second content list for the second content delivery network;

communicating the first content list to a first user device through the first content delivery network; and

communicating the second content list to a second user device through the second content delivery network.

2. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the first type of user device comprises a web based device.

3. A method as recited in claim 2 wherein the web based device comprises a cellular phone.

4. A method as recited in claim 2 wherein the web based device comprises a personal digital assistant.

5. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the second type of user device comprises a satellite device.

8. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first content list comprises communicating the first content list to a web portal.

9. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first content list comprises communicating the first content list through a terrestrial wireless system.

10. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first content list comprises communicating the first content list through a broadband wireless system.

11. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the second content list comprises communicating the second content list through a satellite.

12. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein prior to storing, encrypting the first content with first encryption and encrypting the second content with second encryption different than the first encryption.

13. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising communicating the first content through a broadband system.

14. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising communicating the first content through a wireless system.

15. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising communicating the first content through a web-based system.

16. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising communicating the first content through a broadband system and communicating the second content through a satellite.

17. A method as recited in claim 1 further comprising communicating the second content through a satellite.

6. A method as recited in claim 6 wherein the satellite device comprises a set top box.

7. A method as recited in claim 6 wherein the satellite device comprises a mobile satellite receiver.

18. A method comprising:

transferring a first content to a first content delivery network, said content having a first publication start time and a first purge time;

transferring a first content to a second content delivery network, said content having a second publication start time and a second purge time;

publishing a second content according to a first publication start time;

publishing the second content according to a second publication start time;

purging the first content from the first content delivery network at the first purge time; and

purging the second content from the second content delivery network at the first purge time.

19. A method as recited in claim 18 wherein the first publication start time is different than the second publication start time.

20. A method as recited in claim 18 wherein the first purge time is different than the second purge time.

21. A method as recited in claim 18 wherein the first content is different than the second content.

22. A method as recited in claim 18 wherein the first content is the same as the second content.

23. A method as recited in claim 18 wherein the first content is the same as the second content, and wherein the first publication start time is different than the second publication start time.

24. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising encoding the first content using first encoding and encoding the second content using second encoding.

25. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising communicating metadata to the first content delivery network and second content delivery network.

26. A method as recited in claim 25 wherein the metadata comprises the publication start time and the purge time.

27. A method as recited in claim 25 wherein the metadata comprises the publication start time, the purge time and the publication end time.

28. A method as recited in claim 25 wherein the metadata comprises a material identification, the publication start time and a purge time.

29. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising communicating the first content through a broadband system.

30. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising communicating the first content through a wireless system.

31. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising communicating the first content through a web-based system.

32. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising communicating the first content through a broadband system and communicating the second content through a satellite.

33. A method as recited in claim 18 further comprising communicating the second content through a satellite.

34. A communication system comprising:

a first content delivery network for a first type of user device;

a second content delivery network for a second type of user device;

a content repository communicating with the first content delivery network and the second content delivery network, said first content in a first format associated with the first network and a second content associated with the second network;

a content management system generating a first content list for the first content delivery network and generating a second content list for the second content delivery network;

a content distribution system communicating with the content management system and the first content delivery network and the second content delivery network, said content distribution system transferring content to the first and second content delivery network from the content repository, the content delivery network publishing the content according to a publication start time;

said first content delivery network communicating the first content list to a first user device; and

said second content delivery network communicating the second content list to a second user device.

35. A system as recited in claim 34 wherein the first type of user device comprises a web based device.

36. A system as recited in claim 35 wherein the web based device comprises a cellular phone.

37. A system as recited in claim 35 wherein the web based device comprises a personal digital assistant.

38. A system as recited in claim 35 wherein the second type of user device comprises a satellite device.

39. A system as recited in claim 38 wherein the satellite device comprises a set top box.

40. A system as recited in claim 38 wherein the satellite device comprises a mobile satellite receiver.

41. A system as recited in claim 38 further comprising a web portal receiving the first content list.

42. A system as recited in claim 38 further comprising an encryption module encrypting the first content with first encryption and encrypting the second content with second encryption different than the first encryption.
