System for Applying Content Categorizations of Images
First Claim
1. A computer-readable medium containing instructions for scanning and categorizing images according to categorization content, said medium comprising computer instructions executable to achieve the functions of:
- accessing a store of informational content including images;
performing a search for images located in the store;
for an image located in the performance of the search, presenting the image to a user for categorization;
for an image located in the performance of the search, accepting from a user a content categorization;
for images for which a content categorization is accepted, computing an image fingerprint;
for an accepted content categorization, creating a tuple including a computed fingerprint and a corresponding content categorization; and
for an accepted content categorization, submitting a computed fingerprint and a corresponding content categorization to a content categorization database.

Abstract
Disclosed herein are databases that contain image context categorizations, those categorizations identifying the context of an image based on a computed fingerprint. Also disclosed herein are applications of such a database, including a viewing application that blocks the rendering of images with undesirable content noted by a content categorization, and a scanning application that locates images in a corpus or repository of images having certain content noted by content categorization, such as unlawful images. Such blocking may be through an obfuscation technique, such as blurring, distorting an image, or may be through a replacement of image material. A categorization tool may include obfuscation with an aperture tool for clarifying portions of blocked images. Detailed information on various example embodiments of the inventions are provided in the Detailed Description below, and the inventions are defined by the appended claims.

8. An image scanner for categorizing images and for providing image categorizations to a database, comprising:
-
a display viewable by a person; an image search facility functional to search for images within a store of informational content; a fingerprint generator functional to produce fingerprints from image data; a rendering engine functional to display information retrieved through said image access facility on said display; wherein said system is operable to produce a set of images made through said image search facility; wherein said system is operable to generate fingerprints within a set of images made through said image search facility by said fingerprint generator; wherein said system, having generated a fingerprint for an image by said fingerprint generator is further operable to obtain a content categorization from a content categorization database; wherein said system, having obtained a content categorization for an image, makes a determination as to whether or not the image is to be reported; and wherein said system is functional to generate a report for those images that have been determined to be reported. - View Dependent Claims (9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16)
