Abstract

A system and method for mediating a transaction of a digital document by converting a transaction into an internal representation according to predefined rules and according to processing definitions associated with the source of the transaction, validating and possibly altering the transaction in its internal representation according to predefined rules and according to processing definitions associated with the destination of the transaction, converting said internal representation into an external representation according to predefined rules and according to rules specific to a destination of said transaction and communicating the external representation to a destination.

Claims

1. A method of for converting a first transaction document to a second transaction document comprising:

receiving from a first user a first transaction document having a first format;

converting said transaction into an intermediate document having an internal format based at least in part on a first set of formatting rules provided by said first user;

validating data in said intermediate document based at least in part on validation rules provided by a second user;

converting data in said intermediate document into a second document having a second format based on formatting rules provided by said second user; and

sending said second document to said second user.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein said second user is selected based on data retrieved from said first document.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein said internal format is XML.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein said first format includes an image portion and a text data portion.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein said validating comprises correcting errors in said intermediate document based on said validation rules provided by said second user.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein said validating comprises sending said first user an error message notifying of errors in said intermediate document.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein said validating comprises verifying data type of predefined fields in said intermediate document.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein said validating comprises ascertaining existence of predefined fields in said intermediate document.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein said validating comprises ascertaining absence of predefined fields in said intermediate document.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein said validating comprises validating said data according to specifications stored as an extensible stylesheet language transformation (XSLT) document.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein converting said transaction into an internal document comprises replacing some fields with web services description language (WSDL) declarations.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein converting said transaction into an intermediate document having an internal format comprises retrieving for inclusion in said intermediate document data from a source other than said first document.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein said information is obtained by executing web-services.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein said validating comprises verifying that at least one field in said intermediate document contains a specific value.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein said specific value is determined based on a logical relation of at least one field in said intermediate document.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein said converting comprises converting data stored in a first set of fields in said intermediate document according to data type and value of a second set of predefined fields in said intermediate document.
