Abstract

A presentation application for recording and exporting slide show presentations is provided. Using the presentation application, a user can give a slide show presentation and request that the presentation application record the presentation. The presentation application may enable a microphone to record audio for the presentation. The presentation application may keep track of the timing between transitions in the slides of the presentation. Using the audio and the transition timing, the presentation application can create an audio-visual media file, such as an MPEG file. Using the presentation application, the user can export the audio-visual media file to another source or program, such as the Internet or QuickTime.

Claims

1. A method of recording a slide show presentation using a presentation application implemented on an electronic device, wherein the slide show presentation comprises one or more slides, the method comprising:

in response to receiving a user indication to record the slide show presentation;

displaying the one or more slides of the slide show presentation with a particular timing between transitions; and

enabling an audio input device to record audio onto an audio track; and

creating media with audio and visual components, wherein the audio component comprises the audio track and the visual component comprises the one or more slides having the particular timing between the transitions.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein creating the media comprises generating an MPEG media file from the audio track and the one or more slides.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the transitions comprise at least one of slide changes and animations.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

placing a marker in the audio track for each slide change in the slide show presentation.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

receiving a user request to play the slide show presentation;

identifying the marker associated with a current one of the one or more slides;

starting the slide show presentation from the current one of the one or more slides; and

playing the audio track from the associated marker.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

saving an indication of an amount of time that occurs between each of the transitions; and

creating the video component of the media based on the saved indications.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein saving the indication of timing comprises:

activating a timer when one of the transitions occur; and

associating a next transition with a value of the timer when the next transition occurs.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a user indication to pause the slide show presentation; and

in response to receiving the user indication, disabling the audio input device.

9. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

displaying a pause icon to a presenter of the slide show presentation, wherein the user indication to pause the slide show presentation is received from a user selection of the pause icon, and wherein the pause icon is not displayed to an audience of the slide show presentation.

10. The method of claim 8, further comprising:

receiving a user request to resume the slide show presentation; and

in response to receiving the user request, reactivating the audio input device.

11. A method of exporting a slide show presentation using a presentation application implemented on an electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving a user indication to export the slide show presentation;

receiving a user selection of a media source from a plurality of media sources; and

converting the slide show presentation to a format compatible with the selected media source.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the plurality of media sources comprises at least one of Quicktime, Flash, and the Internet.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein converting the recorded slide show presentation comprises changing the recorded slide show presentation from an original file format to the format compatible with the selected media source.

14. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

determining whether to export the slide show presentation with slide transitions based on a previous recording of the slide show presentation; and

wherein exporting the slide show presentation comprises creating a media file having the slide transitions based on the previous recording when the determining is affirmative.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising:

determining whether to include an audio component in the converted slide show presentation; and

including the audio component in the exported slide show presentation when the determining is affirmative.

16. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

receiving a user indication to add subtitles to the slide show presentation; and

in response to receiving the user indication, adding subtitles to the converted slide show presentation.

17. An electronic device for recording a slide show presentation having one or more slides using a presentation application, the electronic device comprising:

a display;

a microphone;

a user input device; and

a processor operative to;

receive a user indication to record the slide show presentation from the user input device;

direct the microphone to record audio onto an audio track in response to receiving the user indication;

display the one or more slides of the slide show presentation with a particular timing between transitions in response to receiving the user indication; and

create media with audio and visual components, wherein the audio component comprises the audio track and the visual component comprises the one or more slides having the particular timing between transitions.

18. The electronic device of claim 17, wherein the processor is further operative to:

compute an amount of time between the transitions in the slide show presentation; and

create the video component of the media based on the computed amount of time between the transitions.

19. The electronic device of claim 17, wherein the processor is further operative to:

place a marker in the audio track when a slide change transition occurs.

20. The electronic device of claim 17, wherein the processor is further operative to:

disable the microphone when a user indication to pause the slide show presentation is received from the user input device.

21. An electronic device for exporting a slide show presentation using a presentation application, the electronic device comprising a user input device and a processor, the processor operative to:

receive a user indication from the user input device to export the slide show presentation;

receive a user selection from the user input device of a media source from a plurality of media sources; and

convert the slide show presentation to a format compatible with the selected media source.

22. The electronic device of claim 21, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine whether to base timing between transitions in the converted slide show presentation on a previously recorded presentation; and

convert the slide show presentation using the timing of the previously recorded presentation based on the determination.

23. The electronic device of claim 21, further comprising a microphone, wherein the processor is further configured to:

include audio previously recorded from the microphone into the converted slide show presentation.
