Abstract

A digital broadcast system and a method of processing data are disclosed. The receiving system of the digital broadcast system includes a signal receiving unit, a first data processor, a second data processor, and an A/V decoder. The signal receiving unit receives at least one of first mobile service data that is transmitted according to a first transmission method and second mobile service data that is transmitted according to a second transmission method. The first data processor performs demodulation on the first mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit using a first demodulation method and corrects errors occurring in the demodulated first mobile service data. The second data processor performs demodulation on the second mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit using a second demodulation method and corrects errors occurring in the demodulated second mobile service data. The A/V decoder performs A/V decoding on mobile service data outputted from at least one of the first and second data processors.

Claims

1. A receiving system comprising:

a signal receiving unit for receiving at least one of first mobile service data that is transmitted according to a first transmission method and second mobile service data that is transmitted according to a second transmission method, wherein the first mobile service data configures a data group, wherein the data group is divided into a plurality of regions, wherein known data sequences are lineally inserted in some regions among the plurality of regions within the data group, and wherein initialization data are inserted at a beginning portion of each known data sequence, the initialization data being used for initializing a memory included in a trellis encoder of a transmitting system;

a first data processor for performing demodulation on the first mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit using a first demodulation method and correcting errors occurring in the demodulated first mobile service data;

a second data processor for performing demodulation on the second mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit using a second demodulation method and correcting errors occurring in the demodulated second mobile service data; and

an A/V decoder for performing A/V decoding on mobile service data outputted from at least one of the first and second data processors.

The receiving system according to claim 1, wherein the signal receiving unit includes a tuner for receiving the first mobile service data that is transmitted according to the first transmission method and the second mobile service data that is transmitted according to the second transmission method.

3. The receiving system according to claim 1, wherein the signal receiving unit includes an A/D converter for converting each of the first mobile service data and the second mobile service data into a digital signal and outputting the digital signal.

4. The receiving system according to claim 1, further comprising:

a signal determinator for determining a transmission method of mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit; and

a demultiplexer for outputting the first mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit to the first data processor and outputting the second mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit to the second data processor according to the determination of the signal determinator.

5. The receiving system according to claim 4, wherein the signal determinator determines whether mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit has been received according to the first transmission method or the second transmission method using channel allocation information.

The receiving system according to claim 4, wherein the signal determinator determines whether mobile service data received by the signal receiving unit has been received according to the first transmission method or the second transmission method according to whether or not the known data has been detected.

7. The receiving system according to claim 1, wherein the first data processor includes:

a first demodulator for demodulating input first mobile service data according to reverse of a VSB modulation method;

a first channel equalizer for performing channel equalization on the demodulated first mobile service data, thereby compensating for channel distortion that has occurred in the demodulated first mobile service data;

a first inner decoder for performing first error-correction decoding process on the channel-equalized first mobile service data; and

a first outer decoder for performing second error-correction decoding process on the first error-correction decoded first mobile service data and then outputting the second error-correction decoded first mobile service data for A/V decoding.

8. The receiving system according to claim 1, wherein the second data processor includes:

a second demodulator for demodulating input second mobile service data according to reverse of an OFDM modulation method;

a second channel equalizer for performing channel equalization on the demodulated second mobile service data, thereby compensating for channel distortion that has occurred in the demodulated second mobile service data;

a second inner decoder for performing first error-correction decoding process on the channel-equalized second mobile service data and then outputting the inner-decoded second mobile service data for A/V decoding.

9. A method for processing data of a receiving system, the method comprising:

receiving at least one of first mobile service data that is transmitted according to a first transmission method and second mobile service data that is transmitted according to a second transmission method;

determining a transmission method of the received mobile service data;

performing demodulation on the first mobile service data inputted using a first demodulation method and correcting errors occurring in the demodulated first mobile service data according to the determination result;

performing demodulation on the second mobile service data inputted using a second demodulation method and correcting errors occurring in the demodulated second mobile service data according to the determination result; and

performing A/V decoding on mobile service data outputted from at least one of the first and second data processor steps,

wherein the first mobile service data configures a data group, wherein the data group is divided into a plurality of regions, wherein known data sequences are lineally inserted in some regions among the plurality of regions within the data group, and wherein initialization data are inserted at a beginning portion of each known data sequence, the initialization data being used for initializing a memory included in a trellis encoder of a transmitting system.

10. The method according to claim 9, wherein the determining step includes determining whether mobile service data has been received according to the first transmission method or the second transmission method using channel allocation information.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the determining step includes determining whether mobile service data has been received according to the first transmission method or the second transmission method according to whether or not the known data has been detected.

12. The method according to claim 9, wherein the first data processing includes:

performing demodulation on the inputted first mobile service data according to reverse of a VSB modulation method;

performing channel equalization on the demodulated first mobile service data, thereby compensating for channel distortion that has occurred in the demodulated first mobile service data;

performing first error-correction decoding process on the channel-equalized first mobile service data; and

performing second error-correction decoding process on the first error-correction decoded first mobile service data, and then outputting the second error-correction decoded first mobile service data for A/V decoding.

13. The method according to claim 9, wherein the second data processing includes:

performing demodulation on the inputted second mobile service data according to reverse of an OFDM modulation method;

performing channel equalization on the demodulated second mobile service data, thereby compensating for channel distortion that has occurred in the demodulated second mobile service data;

performing first error-correction decoding process on the channel-equalized second mobile service data; and

performing second error-correction decoding process on the first error-correction decoded second mobile service data, and then outputting the second error-correction decoded second mobile service data for A/V decoding.

14. The method according to claim 12, wherein the second error-correction decoding process performs in hardware architecture.
