Abstract

A sports electronic training system with electronic gaming features, and applications thereof, are disclosed. In an embodiment, the system comprises at least one monitor and a portable electronic processing device for receiving data from the at least one monitor and providing feedback to an individual based on the received data. The monitor can be a motion monitor that measures an individual'"'"'s performance such as, for example, speed, pace and distance for a runner. Other monitors might include a heart rate monitor, a temperature monitor, an altimeter, et cetera. In an embodiment, an input is provided to an electronic game based on data obtained from the at least one monitor that effects, for example, an avatar, a digitally created character, an action within the game, or a game score of the electronic game.

Claims

1. A sports electronic system, comprising:

a motion monitor; and

a portable electronic processing device in wireless communications with the motion monitor,

wherein the portable electronic processing device includes a program that interacts with an electronic game.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the motion monitor includes an accelerometer.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the portable electronic processing device is a mobile telephone.

4. The system of claim 1, further comprising a watch in wireless communications with the portable electronic processing device.

5. The system of claim 1, further comprising a heart rate monitor in wireless communications with the portable electronic processing device.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the program determines a value downloaded to the electronic game that effects a digitally created character of the electronic game.

7. The system of claim 6, wherein the downloaded value effects one of a health value, a fitness value, and a strength value for the digitally created character.

8. The system of claim 6, wherein the portable electronic processing device includes a virtual trainer program that determines a level of exercise based on values generated by the motion monitor.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the virtual trainer program provides feedback regarding the level of exercise.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the program determines a value downloaded to the electronic game that effects a player'"'"'s score.

11. A method of interacting with an electronic game, comprising:

(1) monitoring movement of an individual with at least one accelerometer;

(2) calculating information about the movement of the individual based on the monitoring in (1); and

(3) providing an input to the electronic game based on the information calculated in (2), wherein the input effects a digitally created character of the electronic game.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein (1) comprises monitoring movement of a foot of the individual.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein (1) comprises monitoring movement of a leg of the individual.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein (1) comprises monitoring movement of a wrist of the individual.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein (1) comprises monitoring movement of an arm of the individual.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein (2) comprises calculating rotational acceleration values.

17. The method of claim 11, wherein (2) comprises calculating translational acceleration values.

18. The method of claim 11, wherein (3) comprises providing an input that effects one of a health value, a fitness value, and a strength value for the digitally created character.

19. The method of claim 11, wherein (3) comprises providing an input that effects movement of the digitally created character.

20. The method of claim 11, further comprising:

(4) monitoring a heart rate of the individual; and

(5) providing an input to the electronic game based on the monitoring in (4).

21. A method of interacting with an electronic game, comprising:

(1) monitoring movement of an individual with at least one accelerometer;

(2) calculating information about the movement of the individual based on the monitoring in (1); and

(3) providing an input to the electronic game based on the information calculated in (2), wherein the input effects a game score.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein (1) comprises monitoring movement of a foot of the individual.

23. The method of claim 21, wherein (2) comprises calculating rotational acceleration values.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein (2) comprises calculating translational acceleration values.

25. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

(4) monitoring a heart rate of the individual; and

(5) providing an input to the electronic game based on the monitoring in (4).

26. A method of interacting with an electronic game, comprising:

(1) monitoring a heart rate of an individual;

(2) calculating information about an activity level of the individual based on the monitoring in (1); and

(3) providing an input to the electronic game based on the information calculated in (2), wherein the input effects a digitally created character of the electronic game.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein (3) comprises providing an input that effects one of a health value, a fitness value, and a strength value for the digitally created character.

28. A method of interacting with an electronic game, comprising:

(1) monitoring a heart rate of an individual;

(2) calculating information about an activity level of the individual based on the monitoring in (1); and

(3) providing an input to the electronic game based on the information calculated in (2), wherein the input effects a game score.
