1. A device for assessing the condition of a mammalian heart, comprising:

  • (a) first and second leads adapted to be disposed outside of the heart;

    (b) a processor coupled to the first and second leads, the processor configured to;

    (i) obtain first and second signals from the first and second leads, and compute first and second waveforms corresponding to the first and second signals, each of the first and second waveforms being characterized by a QRS complex associated with cardiac activation;

    (ii) compare features of the QRS complexes of the first and second waveforms to derive a propagation time estimate that is indicative of the speed of cardiac activation through at least a portion of the heart;

    (iii) apply a test to detect a pathological heart condition, wherein the test is based on the propagation time; and

    (c) a signaling device in communication with said processor for sending a signal to an indicator device when said pathological heart condition is detected.
