Abstract

A light weight transmission device providing an identification signal is disclosed. In one aspect, the device comprises a gating device for controlling the transfer of information to the transmitter, a data retaining device, in communication with the gating device, receiving and storing the information for a known period of time, and a controller, in communication with the gating device, providing a signal to the gating device to enable transfer of the retained information to the transmitter at a known time and for a known period of time.

Claims

1. A lightweight transmission comprising:

a transmitter;

a gating device for controlling the transfer of information to said transmitter;

a data retaining device, in communication with said gating device, receiving and storing said information for a known period of time; and

a controller, in communication with said gating device, providing a signal to said gating device to enable transfer of said retained information to said transmitter at a known time and for a known period of time.

2. The device of claim 1, further comprising:

means for resetting at least selected areas of said data retaining device.

3. The device of claim 1, further comprising:

a receiving system for receiving a signal, wherein said known time is determined with respect to said received signal.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein said information includes an identification code.

5. The device of claim 4, wherein said identification code is pre-loaded in said data retaining device.

6. The device of claim 3, wherein said information includes an identification code received by said receiving system.

7. The device of claim 6, wherein said identification code is retained in a storage device.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein said known time and period are preloaded.

9. The device of claim 3, wherein said known time and known period are received by said receiving system.

10. The device of claim 1, wherein said information includes at least an identification code of a known number of bits.

11. The device of claim 10, wherein the identification code is at least 16 bits.

12. The device of claim 11, wherein each bit is transmitted for a period of 61 nanoseconds.

13. The device of claim 1, wherein said known time is determined with respect to a predetermined indicator.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein said predetermined indicator is a received signal.

15. The device of claim 1, further comprising;

means for providing to said controller a signal to cause transfer of said information to said transmitter

16. The device of claim 1, wherein said information includes at least a known number of bits transmitted at a first known period between each of said bits and at least one unmodulated bit transmitted a second known period after transmission of a last of said known number of bits.

17. A device comprising:

a transmitter; and

a microcontroller in communication with a memory, said memory including code which when accessed by said processor causes said processor to execute the steps of;

delaying operation for a known period of time after receiving an indication of operational status;

providing a plurality of bits to said transmitter at a first known period between each of said bits and at least one unmodulated bit at a second known period after transmission of a last of said bits; and

returning to a deactivate state after completion of a known interval.

18. The device of claim 17, further wherein said indication of operational status is determined dependent upon a value offset from a known reference point.

19. The device of claim 18, wherein said known reference point is preloaded in said memory.

20. The device of claim 17 further comprising:

a receiving system in communication with said microcontroller.

21. The device of claim 20, wherein said known reference point is provided through said receiving system.

22. The device of claim 20, wherein said offset value is provided through said receiving system.
