Abstract

A system and method for sending text messages and, more particularly, a system and method for forcing SMS capable devices to communicate via SMS using, for example, SS7 protocol. A method comprises providing a tag forcing a return text message to be sent via SS7 protocol. In use, the system and method is configured to force the use of SMS messages via the SS7 protocol. The system and method can be implemented over any network, for example, and any existing mobile device and related infrastructure can be modified to take advantage of the benefits and functionality of the system and method of the invention.

Claims

1. A method comprising providing a tag forcing a return text message to be sent via SS7 protocol.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the tag is an xml or html tag coded with a return number to be sent via the text message over the SS7 protocol.

3. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending the tag with an SMS message via the SS7 protocol, bypassing TCP/IP.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the SMS message is compressed.

5. The method of claim 3, wherein the SMS message is broken into packets and configured to be reassembled by a receiving party.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the SMS message includes header information indicating a number of received packet(s).

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the tag includes body information.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the body information includes a response.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the tag is associated with a hyperlink.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing a hyperlink to a webpage which includes a response coded with the tag to provide the return text message.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the return text message is an SMS message.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the return text message includes information about a sender such that the information can be used to send a response message.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the steps of claim 1 are implemented on a computer infrastructure maintained, deployed, created or supported by a service provider.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending a message via TCP/IP.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein an iterative process is provided to determine if a text message received or sent in packets can be reassembled, and

if not, discard the packets;

and

if all of the packets are received, display the message.

16. A system for deploying an application in a computing environment, comprising a computer infrastructure being operable to provide an xml or html tag having information forcing a response to be sent via a telephony protocol.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the telephony protocol is SS7.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the tag is coded with a return number to be sent via text messaging over the SS7 protocol.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the tag is sent with an SMS message.

20. The system of claim 19, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to compress the SMS message.

21. The system of claim 19, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to break the SMS message into packets configured to be reassembled by a receiving party.

22. The system of claim 21, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to provide the SMS message with header information indicating a number of received packet(s).

23. The system of claim 16, wherein the tag includes body information.

24. The system of claim 16, wherein the computer infrastructure is operable to provide a hyperlink to a webpage which includes a response coded with the tag to provide a return text message.

25. The system of claim 24, wherein the return text message is an SMS message and the computer infrastructure is operable to break the return text message into two or more packets to be reassembled by a receiving party.

26. The system of claim 16, wherein the response is a text message having information about a sender.

27. The system of claim 16, wherein the computer infrastructure is maintained, deployed, created or supported by a service provider.

28. A computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having readable program code embodied in the medium, the computer program product includes at least one component to provide a message to a recipient which links a tag having coding forcing a return text message to be sent over telephony.

29. A method for deploying an application in a computing environment, comprising a computer infrastructure being operable to force a return text message to be sent over telephony.
