Abstract

There is provided a method for preloading the glyphs required to display the content of a system. In accordance with an embodiment of the present technique, only those glyphs which are present in the system upon startup or synchronization of an electronic device are preloaded. The glyphs present upon startup or synchronization of the electronic device may be determined by scanning the system. In an illustrated embodiment, scanning the system may include analyzing models and views to determine the glyphs present in the system.

Claims

1. A method for loading glyphs, comprising:

determining glyphs present in display information; and

preloading only the present glyphs from a non-volatile memory to a volatile memory.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein determining comprises scanning models and views to determine the glyphs present in the system.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the models comprise characters including letters, numbers, or symbols, or a combination thereof.

4. The method of claim 2, wherein the views comprise attributes including typeface, size, style, or color, or a combination thereof.

5. The method of claim 1, comprising compiling a list of the present glyphs based on the system scan, using an external manager program, or a combination of both.

6. An electronic device, comprising:

a non-volatile storage device that stores glyphs for display;

a processor that scans for displayable information on the electronic device to determine the glyphs required to display such displayable information; and

a volatile memory device onto which the required glyphs are preloaded from the non-volatile storage device.

7. The electronic device of claim 6, comprising a display operably coupled to the processor and configured to display the displayable information.

8. The electronic device of claim 6, wherein the displayable information comprises a view and a model containing information defining the required glyphs.

9. The electronic device of claim 6, wherein the non-volatile storage device comprises a hard drive, a flash drive, or a type of read-only memory, or a combination thereof.

10. The electronic device of claim 6, wherein the volatile memory device comprises a random access memory.

11. A method for preloading glyphs, comprising:

scanning a view stored on a non-volatile storage device for display attributes;

scanning a model stored on the non-volatile storage device for display data and the view with which the display data is associated;

compiling a list of display glyphs based on the display data for each display attribute; and

copying the glyphs on the list from the non-volatile storage device onto a system memory.

12. The electronic device of claim 11, wherein the non-volatile storage device comprises a hard drive, a flash drive, or a type of read-only memory, or a combination thereof.

13. The electronic device of claim 11, wherein the system memory comprises a random access memory.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the display attributes comprise typeface, size, style, or color, or a combination thereof.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the display data comprises letters, numbers, or symbols, or a combination thereof.

16. A tangible, machine-readable medium, comprising code executable to perform the tasks of:

scanning a system for glyphs present in display information; and

preloading only the present glyphs from a non-volatile memory to a volatile memory.

17. The tangible, machine-readable medium of claim 16, comprising code executable to perform the task of compiling a list of the present glyphs based on the system scan.

18. The tangible, machine-readable medium of claim 16, wherein scanning the system comprises scanning models and views to determine the glyphs present in the system.

19. The tangible, machine-readable medium of claim 18, wherein the models comprise characters including letters, numbers, or symbols, or a combination thereof.

20. The tangible, machine-readable medium of claim 18, wherein the views comprise attributes including typeface, size, style, or color, or a combination thereof.
