Abstract

An implementation of a system, device and method for communicating location data of a mobile station, enhancing location data, optimally communicating Assistance Data, and/or reducing rebids of Measure Position Request messages in a wireless network.

Claims

1. A method of communicating location data of a mobile station in a wireless network, the method comprising:

starting a GPS engine in anticipation of receiving a future RRLP Measure Position Request message and base on a triggering event;

receiving an RRLP Measure Position Request message while continuing position determination; and

sending an RRLP Measure Position Response message.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving an RR message; and

in response to the RR message, aborting a session while continuing position determination.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the triggering event comprises detecting an emergency services (ES) call.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the triggering event comprises receiving an RRLP Assistance Data message.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the triggering event comprises receiving a value added service (VAS) message.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the triggering event comprises one of:

detecting an emergency services (ES) call;

receiving an RRLP Assistance Data message; and

receiving a value added service (VAS) message.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising shutting down the GPS engine based on sending an RRLP Measure Position Response message.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising shutting down the GPS engine responsive to timing out, wherein the timing out is based on not receiving an RRLP Measure Position Request message.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprises receiving a first of a segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages comprises reference information including a satellite time and a coarse MS location.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages further comprises satellite vehicle position information for a first optimal satellite and a second optimal satellite.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the first optimal satellite and the second optimal satellite are selected based on being approximately orthogonally oriented with respect the mobile station.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the first optimal satellite and the second optimal satellite are selected based on the coarse MS location.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein the first optimal satellite and the second optimal satellite are selected based on an environmental characteristic.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message contains no Assistance Data.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message is received at a time based on when a position fix is required by a network.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message comprises a network response time (NW Response Time) value and a network accuracy (NW Accuracy) value, the method further comprising replacing the network accuracy with a different network accuracy value.

17. The method of claim 17, wherein the different network accuracy value comprises a value representing 0 meters.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the different network accuracy value comprises a value representing a higher accuracy than the network accuracy.

19. The method of claim 17, wherein the different network accuracy value comprises a value representing a lower accuracy than the network accuracy.

20. A method of communicating location data of a mobile station in a wireless network, the method comprising:

starting a GPS engine in anticipation of receiving a future RRLP Measure Position Request message and base on a triggering event;

receiving a first of a segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages comprises reference information including a satellite time and a coarse MS location, and further including satellite vehicle position information for a first optimal satellite and a second optimal satellite;

receiving an RR message; and

in response to the RR message, aborting a session while continuing position determination.

receiving an RRLP Measure Position Request message while continuing position determination, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message comprises a network response time (NW Response Time) value and a network accuracy (NW Accuracy) value;

replacing the network accuracy with a different network accuracy value; and

shutting down the GPS engine based on sending a RRLP Measure Position Response message;

wherein the triggering event comprises one of;

detecting an emergency services (ES) call;

receiving an RRLP Assistance Data message; and

receiving a value added service (VAS) message.

21. A mobile station for communicating location data of a in a wireless network, the mobile station comprising:

a GPS engine to start in anticipation of receiving a future RRLP Measure Position Request message base on a triggering event;

a receiver to receive an RRLP Measure Position Request message while continuing position determination; and

a transmitter to send an RRLP Measure Position Response message.

22. The mobile station of claim 21, further comprising logic to abort a session while continuing position determination, in response to receiving an RR message.

23. The mobile station of claim 21, wherein the triggering event comprises one of:

detecting an emergency services (ES) call;

receiving an RRLP Assistance Data message; and

receiving a value added service (VAS) message.

24. The mobile station of claim 21 further comprising logic to shut down the GPS engine based on sending an RRLP Measure Position Response message.

25. The mobile station of claim 21, wherein the receiver is further to receive a first of a segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages comprises reference information including a satellite time and a coarse MS location.

26. The mobile station of claim 25, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages further comprises satellite vehicle position information for a first optimal satellite and a second optimal satellite.

27. The mobile station of claim 26, wherein the first optimal satellite and the second optimal satellite are selected based on being approximately orthogonally oriented with respect to the mobile station.

28. The mobile station of claim 26, wherein the first optimal satellite and the second optimal satellite are selected based on the coarse MS location.

29. The mobile station of claim 26, wherein the first optimal satellite and the second optimal satellite are selected based on an environmental characteristic.

30. The mobile station of claim 21, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message contains no Assistance Data.

31. The mobile station of claim 21, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message is received at a time based on when a position fix is required by a network.

32. The mobile station of claim 21, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message comprises a network response time and a network accuracy, the mobile station further comprising logic to replace the network accuracy with a different network accuracy value.

33. A mobile station for communicating location data in a wireless network, the mobile station comprising:

means for starting a GPS engine in anticipation of receiving a future RRLP Measure Position Request message and base on a triggering event;

means for receiving an RRLP Measure Position Request message while continuing position determination; and

means for sending an RRLP Measure Position Response message.

34. The mobile station of claim 33, further comprising:

means for receiving an RR message; and

means for aborting a session while continuing position determination, in response to the RR message.

35. The mobile station of claim 33, wherein the triggering event comprises one of:

detecting an emergency services (ES) call;

receiving an RRLP Assistance Data message; and

receiving a value added service (VAS) message.

36. The mobile station of claim 33, further comprising means for shutting down the GPS engine responsive to timing out, wherein the timing out is based on not receiving an RRLP Measure Position Request message.

37. The mobile station of claim 33, further comprises means for receiving a first of a segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages comprises reference information including a satellite time and a coarse MS location.

38. The mobile station of claim 37, wherein the first of the segmented set of RRLP Assistance Data messages further comprises satellite vehicle position information for a first optimal satellite and a second optimal satellite.

39. The mobile station of claim 33, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message contains no Assistance Data.

40. The mobile station of claim 33, wherein the RRLP Measure Position Request message comprises a network response time (NW Response Time) value and a network accuracy (NW Accuracy) value, the mobile station further comprising means for replacing the network accuracy with a different network accuracy value.

41. A computer-readable product comprising a computer-readable medium comprising:

code for causing at least one computer to start a GPS engine in anticipation of receiving a future RRLP Measure Position Request message and base on a triggering event;

code for causing at least one computer to receive an RRLP Measure Position Request message while continuing position determination; and

code for causing at least one computer to send an RRLP Measure Position Response message.

42. The computer-readable product of claim 41, wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises code for causing at least one computer to abort a session while continuing position determination, in response to receiving an RR message.

43. The computer-readable product of claim 41, wherein the computer-readable medium further comprises code for causing at least one computer to replace a network accuracy with a different network accuracy value.
