Abstract

A method, system, and apparatus for controlling traffic flow in one or more backhaul links in a wireless communication network is provided. Each backhaul link of the one or more backhaul link includes a backhaul uplink and a backhaul downlink. The method includes analyzing one or more backhaul uplinks and one or more backhaul downlinks between a controller and one or more Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs). The method further includes communicating one or more messages between the controller and the one or more BTSs. The one or more messages include analysis of the one or more analysis of one of the one or more backhaul uplinks and the one or more backhaul downlinks. The method further includes controlling the traffic flow in at least one of the one or more backhaul uplinks and the one or more backhaul downlinks based on the one or more messages.

Claims

1. A method of communicating in a wireless communication network, the method comprising:

analyzing at least one backhaul uplink and at least one backhaul downlink between a controller and at least one Base Transceiver Station (BTS);

communicating at least one message between the controller and the at least one BTS, wherein the at least one message comprises at least one analysis of one of the at least one backhaul uplink and the at least one backhaul downlink; and

controlling traffic flow in at least one of the at least one backhaul uplink and the at least one backhaul downlink based on the at least one message.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein an analysis of a backhaul uplink of the at least one backhaul uplink comprises at least one of:

a variation in a capacity of the backhaul uplink from a predefined uplink capacity, wherein the backhaul uplink is between the controller and a BTS of the at least one BTS; and

a failure of the backhaul uplink.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein a message of the at least one message is transmitted by the controller to the BTS of the at least one BTS, the message comprising the analysis of the backhaul uplink.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the BTS controls the amount of traffic flow in the backhaul uplink based on the message.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein an analysis of a backhaul downlink of the at least one backhaul downlink comprises at least one of:

a variation in a capacity of the backhaul downlink from a predefined downlink capacity, wherein the backhaul downlink is between the controller and a BTS of the at least one BTS; and

a failure of the backhaul downlink.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein a message of the at least one message is transmitted by the BTS of the at least one BTS to the controller, the message comprising the analysis of the backhaul downlink.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the controller controls the amount of traffic flow in the backhaul downlink based on the message.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one message is a spare-capacity report.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the BTS is one of a PICO base transceiver station and a FEMTO base transceiver station.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the wireless communication network is one of a WiMAX communication network, a 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, a 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) Ultra Mobile Broadband (UMB) network, a Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) network, and an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) communication network having a backhaul link.

11. A system for communication in the wireless communication network, the system comprising:

at least one analyzing module configured to analyze at least one backhaul uplink and at least one backhaul downlink between a controller and at least one Base Transceiver Station (BTS);

at least one messaging module configured to communicate at least one message between the controller and the at least one BTS, wherein the at least one message comprises at least one analysis of one of the at least one backhaul uplink and the at least one backhaul downlink; and

at least one controlling module configured to control traffic flow in at least one of the at least one backhaul uplink and the at least one backhaul downlink based on the at least one message.

12. The system of claim 11, wherein an analysis of a backhaul uplink of the at least one backhaul uplink comprises at least one of:

a variation in a capacity of the backhaul uplink from a predefined uplink capacity, wherein the backhaul uplink is between the controller and a BTS of the at least one BTS; and

a failure of the backhaul uplink.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein a message of the at least one message is transmitted by a messaging module of the at least one messaging module to a controlling module of the at least one controlling module, the message comprising the analysis of the backhaul uplink.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the controlling module controls the amount of traffic flow in the backhaul uplink.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein an analysis of a backhaul downlink of the at least one backhaul downlink comprises at least one of:

a variation in a capacity of the backhaul downlink from a predefined downlink capacity, wherein the backhaul downlink is between the Controller and a BTS of the at least one BTS; and

a failure of the backhaul downlink.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein a message of the at least one message is transmitted by a messaging module of the at least one messaging module to a controlling module of the at least one controlling module, the message comprising the analysis of the backhaul downlink.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the controlling module controls the amount of traffic flow in the backhaul downlink.

18. An apparatus for communication in the wireless communication network, the apparatus comprising:

a transceiver processor configured to;

analyze at least one backhaul uplink of at least one Base Transceiver Station (BTS);

generate at least one uplink message in response to analyzing the at least one backhaul uplink, wherein the at least one uplink message comprise at least one analysis of the at least one backhaul uplink; and

control traffic flow in at least one backhaul downlink based on at least one downlink message received from the at least one BTS, wherein the at least one downlink message comprise at least one analysis of the at least one backhaul downlink; and

a transceiver configured to transmit the at least one uplink message to the at least one BTS.

19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the apparatus is a controller configured to communicate with the at least one BTS.

20. The apparatus of claim 19, wherein an analysis of a backhaul uplink of the at least one backhaul uplink comprises at least one of:

a variation in a capacity of the backhaul uplink from a predefined uplink capacity, wherein the backhaul uplink is between the controller and a BTS of the at least one BTS; and

a failure of the backhaul uplink.

21. An apparatus for communication in the wireless communication network, the apparatus comprising:

a transceiver processor configured to;

analyze a backhaul downlink of a controller;

generate at least one downlink message in response to analyzing the backhaul downlink, wherein the at least one downlink message comprises at least one analysis of the backhaul downlink; and

control traffic flow in a backhaul uplink based on at least one uplink message received from the controller, wherein the at least one uplink message comprise at least one analysis of the backhaul uplink; and

a transceiver configured to transmit the at least one downlink message to the controller.

22. The apparatus of claim 21, wherein the apparatus is a Base Transceiver Station (BTS configured to communicate with the controller.

23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the analysis of the backhaul downlink comprises at least one of:

a variation in a capacity of the backhaul downlink from a predefined downlink capacity, wherein the backhaul downlink is between the Controller and the BTS; and

a failure of the backhaul downlink.
