Abstract

An implant delivery system is disclosed. The delivery system includes an elongated member having an implant mounting location. A self-expandable implant is mounted at the implant mounting location. The implant is held in a compressed orientation by a retractable sheath. An interlock structure prevents the implant from deploying prematurely as the sheath is retracted. The interlock structure includes radio-opaque markers that identify the position of the implant.

19. A medical device comprising for implanting an implant at a deployment location, comprising:

balloon-expandable implant including a plurality of struts having terminal ends, at least some of the terminal ends of the struts including a plurality of first interlock structures, and

an implant delivery system including an inner member and an outer sheath slideably disposed over the inner member, the delivery system including an implant mounting location at which the implant mounts, the outer sheath being movable from a transport position where the sheath covers the implant at the implant mounting location, to a deploy position where the implant is exposed, the implant delivery system further including one or more second interlock structures that mate with the first interlock structures to prevent deployment of the implant while the first and second interlock structures are engaged.

20. The medical device of claim 19, wherein the implant delivery system further comprises a balloon for expanding the balloon-expandable implant.

21. The medical device of claim 20, wherein the first interlock structures comprise enlargements.

22. The medical device of claim 21, wherein at least some of the enlargements comprise radiopaque markers.

23. The medical device claim 19, wherein the one or more second interlock structures comprise a receptacle, and the first interlock structure comprises multiple enlargements that are circumferentially compressed together within the receptacle.

24. The medical device of claim 19, wherein the delivery system includes a plurality of second interlock structures.

25. The medical device of claim 24, wherein the delivery system includes a second interlock structure for each of the first interlock structures on the implant.

26. The medical device of claim 21, wherein each of the one or more second interlock structures receives at least two of the enlargements.

27. The medical device of claim 21, wherein at least one of the second interlock structures receives at least two of the enlargements, and at least one of the second interlock structures receives only a single one of the enlargements.

28. The medical device of claim 21, wherein at least some of the enlargements define openings, and wherein the implant further comprises radiopaque markers positioned within the openings.

29. The medical device of claim 28, wherein the openings include through-holes.

30. The medical device of claim 19, wherein the implant includes cell disposed along its longitudinal axis and having a cell length, and wherein the first interlock structures are positioned no more than one cell length away from the cells.
