Abstract

A presentation application is provided that displays import notifications when a slide show presentation is opened by a user and displays export notifications when a slide show presentation is exported by the user. When the user directs the presentation application to open a slide show presentation, the presentation application may determine whether one or more unsupported or unidentifiable features or objects are present in the slide show presentation. The presentation application may display a listing in a window of the presentation application for each such error. The warnings displayed in the list may be selectable, and selecting a warning may cause the presentation to display more information regarding the warning. The presentation application may include similar features when the user requests that the presentation application export a slide show presentation.

Claims

1. A method of displaying import notifications to a user of a presentation application implemented on an electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving a user indication to open a slide show presentation;

identifying one or more import errors associated with opening the slide show presentation; and

displaying a warning for each of the one or more import errors in a window of the presentation application.

2. The method of claim 1, the method further comprising:

receiving a user selection of a displayed warning; and

displaying a plurality of options for correcting an import error associated with the selected warning.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising:

receiving a selection of an option from the plurality of options; and

correcting each instance of the import error associated with the selected warning based on the selected option.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein displaying the warning for each of the one or more import errors comprises:

for each of the one or more import errors, displaying a list of slides in the slide show presentation that are affected by that import error.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a selection of a displayed warning; and

displaying a slide in the slide show presentation that is affected by an import error associated with the selected warning.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

determining whether to automatically correct one of the one or more import errors; and

automatically correcting the one of the one or more import errors based on the determining.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

receiving a different correction for the one of the one or more import errors; and

correcting each instance of the one of the one or more import errors using the different correction.

8. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

displaying a placeholder object in place of an unsupported object in the slide show presentation; and

providing a warning for the placeholder object in the window of the presentation application.

9. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a user indication to remove a displayed warning; and

displaying the window without the warning indicated by the user.

10. A method of displaying export notifications to a user of a presentation application implemented on an electronic device, the method comprising:

receiving a user indication to export a slide show presentation to a different program;

identifying one or more export errors in the slide show presentation that are not supported by the different program; and

displaying a warning for each of the one or more export errors in a window of the presentation application.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein each warning for the one or more export errors are selectable, the method further comprising:

receiving a user selection of a displayed warning; and

displaying a plurality of options that are supported by the different program for correcting an export error associated with the selected warning.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein displaying the warning for each of the one or more export errors comprises:

for each of the one or more export errors, displaying a list of slides in the slide show presentation that are affected by that export error.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

receiving a selection of a displayed warning; and

displaying a slide in the slide show presentation that is affected by an export error associated with the selected warning.

14. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

determining whether to automatically correct one of the one or more export errors; and

automatically correcting the one of the one or more export errors based on the determining.

15. An electronic device for displaying import notifications using a presentation application, the electronic device comprising a display and a processor, the processor operative to:

open a slide show presentation in response to a receiving a user request to open the slide show presentation from the input device;

determine whether one or more import errors are present in the requested slide show presentation; and

direct the display to display the one or more import errors each as a warning in a window of the slide show presentation.

16. The electronic device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine whether there are any features or objects in the requested slide show presentation that are unsupported or unidentifiable by the presentation application; and

generate a notification for display in the window of the presentation application for the determined features or objects that are unsupported or unidentifiable.

17. The electronic device of claim 15, wherein the processor is further operative to:

automatically correct at least one of the determined one or more import errors.

18. The electronic device of claim 15, further comprising a user input device operative to receive a user selection of one of the warnings in the window of the presentation application.

19. The electronic device of claim 18, wherein the processor is further operative to:

direct the display to provide a plurality of options for correcting an import error associated with the one of the warnings selected from the window.

20. The electronic device of claim 18, wherein the processor is further operative to:

show a slide of the slide show presentation that is affected by an import error associated with the one of the warnings selected from the window.

21. An electronic device for displaying export notifications using a presentation application, the electronic device comprising a display, a user input device, and a processor, the processor operative to:

receive a request from the user input device to export a slide show presentation to a particular source;

determine whether one or more export errors will be present in the exported slide show presentation; and

direct the display to display the one or more export errors each as a warning in a window of the slide show presentation.

22. The electronic device of claim 22, wherein the processor is further operative to:

determine whether there are any features or objects in the slide show presentation that are unsupported or unidentifiable by the particular source; and

generate a notification for display in the window of the presentation application for the determined features or objects that are unsupported or unidentifiable.

23. The electronic device of claim 22, wherein the processor is further operative to:

receive a user selection from the user input device of one of the warnings in the window of the presentation application; and

display additional information for the one of the warnings.
