Abstract

A box scraper for use with a pulling or a pushing vehicle, having a continuous box-form main frame above, with a lower portion of the rear wall, the moldboard, hinged to the side wall at one end and held to the opposite side wall by a lock mechanism such that one end of the moldboard can be released backwards from that sidewall; when thus released allowing for a smooth and continuous lateral release of scraped materials outside the confines of the scraper box.

Claims

1. A box scraper (scraper) comprising a modified box having two parallel sides, an open top and bottom and a connecting element, the front top beam (FTB) spanning across the otherwise open front of said box, said FTB affixed to said right and left side walls at their upper, inner aspects, a complete rear-wall comprising:

an upper connecting element, the rear top beam (RTB) that is affixed to said side walls at their top rear ends, and a lower element, the moldboard assembly (MBA), said MBA ending below in a cutting edge.

said MBA being attached to one of said side walls by a hinge assembly (hinge) and attached at its opposite end to the other of said sidewalls by a lock mechanism (lock),

and, by virtue of said hinge and lock arrangement, said MBA being made capable of swinging back from said lock-end'"'"'s adjacent side wall, thus creating an opening between said side wall and said MBA,

operating means by which said lock can be opened or closed,

operating means by which said lock-end of said MBA can be selectively moved rearward from said associated side wall, or brought back into approximation with said side wall.

2. The scraper of claim 1 having means for attachment to the hitch assembly of a pulling vehicle.

3. The scraper of claim 1 having means for attachment to a pushing vehicle.

The scraper of claim 1 in which said RTB of said scraper has a reinforcement assembly (RA), said RA comprising an assemblage designed to reinforce the RTB near the hinged end of said scraper'"'"'s mainframe, said RA being welded to another element, a rearward extending guidance plate that provides horizontal support along which an MBA borne support plate can move throughout the full arc of opening of said MBA;

The scraper of claim 4 in which said RA assembly comprises a horizontally aligned set of two triangular steel plates welded to each other as well as to the rear facing wall of the RTB, also being welded to a base plate covering the opening formed between said triangular plates and the RTB, with the rearward extending guidance plate welded to extend rearward along the bottom length of the bottom plate of said RA assemblage.

6. The scraper of claim 2 in which said MBA ends below in both a forward and a rearward facing blade element

8. A process for gathering materials with a box scraper and then spreading the gathered materials laterally to one side of the box scraper by means of creating a gap between one end of the scraper'"'"'s moldboard and its associated sidewall.

The process of claim 8 in which the means of creating the gap between the scraper'"'"'s moldboard and its associated sidewall involves having the moldboard attached to one of the scraper'"'"'s side walls by a hinge and by a lock mechanism at the other end, and, having means for controlling both the opening and closing of the lock as well as the rearward movement of the moldboard away from its associated sidewall.
