Abstract

A method is provided for describing a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated. This method provides at least one item of information of optimization, provided for permitting, in a terminal, a selection of a scene rendering algorithm among a set of at least two available algorithms according to at least one criterion of optimization of an allocation of resources used for carrying out the scene rendering algorithm.

Claims

1. Method of describing a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated, the method comprising:

using at least one item of optimization information allowing, in a terminal, a selection of a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two available algorithms, according to at least one criterion for optimization of an allocation of resources used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.

2. Method of describing a multimedia scene according to claim 1, wherein at least one of said items of optimization information allows a parameterizing in said terminal of at least one characteristic of a selected scene rendering algorithm.

3. Method of describing a multimedia scene according to claim 1, wherein at least one of said items of optimization information is inserted as a preamble to the scene and applies to the whole of said scene.

4. Method of describing a multimedia scene according to either claim 1, wherein at least one of said items of optimization information applies to at least one particular object of the scene.

5. Method of describing a scene according to claim 1, wherein said item of information is an item of binary information, representing two complexity levels referred to as “

simple” and

“

complex”

.

6. Method of describing a scene according to claim 1, wherein said information comprises numerical information representing several complexity levels.

7. Method of describing a scene according to claim 5, wherein the scene is said to be “

complex”

at least when the scene uses a temporal rendering control for at least one object.

8. Method of describing a scene according to claim 1, wherein said scene is coded in SVG/LASeR.

9. Method of describing a scene according to claim 1, wherein at least one of said items of optimization information is an item of information on characteristics of inclusion in said scene of at least part of a second scene, said information on the inclusion characteristics being intended for a scene rendering engine of said terminal.

10. Computer program product stored on a carrier that can be read by a computer, wherein the product comprises program code instructions for implementing a method of describing a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated, the method comprising:

using at least one item of optimization information allowing, in a terminal, a selection of a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two available algorithms, according to at least one criterion for optimization of an allocation of resources used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.

11. Method comprising transmitting a description signal for a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated, wherein the signal comprises:

at least one item of optimization information, allowing, in a terminal, selection of a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two available algorithms, according to at least one criterion for optimization of a resource allocation used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.

12. Data carrier carrying at least one signal describing a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated,

at least one of said signals comprises at least one item of optimization information, allowing, in a terminal, a selection of a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two available algorithms, according to at least one criterion for optimization of a resource allocation used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.

13. Radio communication terminal comprising:

means of rendering a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated, means of reading optimization information, allowing, in a terminal, selection of a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two available algorithms, according to at least one criterion for optimization of a resource allocation used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.

14. Method of rendering a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated, in a terminal, wherein the method comprises the following steps:

reading at least one item of optimization information;

controlling capacities of the terminal and selecting a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two algorithms available according to at least one criterion for optimization of a resource allocation used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.

Computer program product stored on a carrier that can be read by a computer, wherein the product comprises program code instructions for implementing a method of rendering a multimedia scene comprising a set of objects that can be animated, in a terminal, wherein the method comprises the following steps:

reading at least one item of optimization information;

controlling capacities of the terminal and selecting a scene rendering algorithm from a set of at least two algorithms available according to at least one criterion for optimization of a resource allocation used for implementing said scene rendering algorithm.
