Abstract

This disclosure describes, generally, methods and systems for creating dynamic subsets of larger equipment parts lists (EPLs). For example, a method may include receiving a search request that includes an associated failure code and a target asset. The method might further include providing an EPL for the asset type, and retrieving sub-lists of the EPL based on previous search requests which are associated with the failure code for the asset type. The method may further predict which one of the plurality of sub-lists has the highest probability of being associated with the failure code for the asset type and might present the predicted sub-list of the EPL to a user.

Claims

1. A method of creating dynamic subsets of equipment parts lists (EPLs), the method comprising:

receiving a search request, wherein the search request includes an associated failure code and an asset type;

providing an EPL for the asset type;

retrieving a plurality of sub-lists of the EPL based on previous search requests which are associated with the failure code for the asset type;

predicting which one of the plurality of sub-lists has the highest probability of being associated with the failure code for the asset type; and

presenting the predicted sub-list of the EPL to a user.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a new sub-list if the predicted sub-list does not correspond to the request.

3. The method of claim 2, further comprising storing the new sub-list to be used in subsequent predictions.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the failure code comprises a problem-cause-resolution (PCR) code.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the EPL and the plurality of sub-lists are included in a database.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein each of the plurality of sub-lists are generated based on queries of the EPL stored within the database.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

incrementing a count associated with each query each time the query is executed; and

determining a score for each sub-list based at least in part on the count associated with the query.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the predicting is based at least in part on the score of each sub-list.

9. The method of claim 7, further comprising:

presenting two or more of the plurality of sub-lists; and

ordering the two or more of the plurality of sub-lists in descending order according to the corresponding score.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein a sub-list is presented if the sub-list'"'"'s score is greater than a threshold value.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein each item is categorized based on one or more of the following categories:

a type, a sub-type, a manufacturer, a manufacturer'"'"'s identification, a make, a model, and a section.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the EPL includes one or more of assets, supplies, personal listings, and equipment.

13. A system for creating dynamic subsets of larger equipment parts lists (EPLs), the system comprising:

a computing device having

a display device configured to display a user interface (UI) to a user,

an input device configured to receive a search request, wherein the search request includes an associated failure code and an asset type, and

a transmission module configured to transmit the search request;

a database configured to store EPLs and configured to store and execute queries to generate sub-lists of the EPLs; and

a processing center coupled with the computing device via the transmission module and coupled with the database, the processing center configured to receive the search request from the computing device, access the database to retrieve a plurality of sub-lists of an EPL which are associated with the failure code for the asset type, to predict which one of the plurality of sub-lists that has the highest probability of being associated with the failure code, and to present the predicted sub-list of the EPL to a user.

14. The system of claim 13, wherein the computing device is a personal digital assistant (PDA).

15. The system of claim 13, wherein the database is further configured to increment a count associated with each query each time the query is executed.

16. The system of claim 15, wherein the processing center is configured to determine a score for each sub-list based at least in part of the count associated with the query.

17. An apparatus including at least one processor for creating dynamic subsets of larger equipment parts lists (EPLs), the apparatus comprising:

an asset classifier configured to assign an asset type to each of a plurality of assets;

an EPL generator coupled with the asset classifier configured to generate EPL lists for each asset type;

a failure code generator coupled with the asset classifier configured to generate PCR codes for each asset type; and

a probability determination unit coupled with the EPL generator and the failure code generator configured to determine, based on an asset type and a PCR code associated with a request, which sub-list of an EPL has the highest probability of matching the request, and to present the sub-list of the EPL to a user.

18. A machine-readable medium having sets of instructions for creating dynamic subsets of larger equipment parts lists (EPLs) which, when executed by a machine, cause the machine to:

receive a search request, wherein the search request includes an associated failure code and an asset type;

provide an EPL for the asset type;

retrieve a plurality of sub-lists of the EPL based on previous search requests which are associated with the failure code for the asset type;

predict which one of the plurality of sub-lists has the highest probability of being associated with the failure code for the asset type; and

present the predicted sub-list of the EPL to a user.

19. The machine-readable medium of claim 18, wherein the failure code comprises a PCR code.

20. The machine-readable medium of claim 18, wherein the sets of instructions which, when executed by the machine, further cause the machine to:

present two or more of the plurality of sub-lists; and

order the two or more of the plurality of sub-lists in descending order according to the corresponding score.
