Abstract

The present invention is a lightweight, cordless security camera comprising a lightweight stand or tripod, a video camera with pan, tilt, and zoom articulation and an audio microphone, a wireless networking interface enabling wireless access to the camera controls, video, and audio data streams, an antenna enabling transmission and reception of the aforementioned data via the aforementioned wireless networking interface, and a lightweight, battery power supply providing power to the video camera and wireless networking system. The lightweight, battery power supply includes one or more quickly coupled and uncoupled lightweight batteries which can be easily and quickly interchanged to provide continuous power to the security camera. This enables security forces such as police and military forces to safely and continuously monitor and surveil areas including crime scenes and combat theaters.

Claims

1. A power supply for a portable camera, comprising:

a mount;

at least one battery removably coupled to the mount;

a power converter in electrical communication with said at least one battery; and

, said power converter is in electrical communication with said camera.

2. A power supply as claimed in claim 1 wherein said at least one battery is a lithium ion battery.

3. A power supply for a portable camera as claimed in claim 1 wherein said mount is affixed to a post or shaft which supports said camera.

4. A power supply for a portable camera as claimed in claim 1 further comprising a shroud for covering said batteries and said power converter to protect same from undesirable atmospheric conditions.

5. A power supply for a portable camera as claimed in claim 1 wherein a plurality of batteries having different battery chemistries are removably coupled to the mount.

6. A power supply for a portable camera as claimed in claim 1 wherein said power converter is removably coupled to said mount.

7. A power supply as claimed in claim 6 wherein said power converter is an dc to ac converter.

8. A power supply as claimed in claim 6 wherein said power converter is a dc to dc converter.

9. A power supply as claimed in claim 6 wherein said power converter is an ac to dc converter.

10. A portable camera system, comprising:

a modular and convertible power supply, said modular and convertible power supply communicating with said camera;

a remote controller, said remote controller positioning said camera and managing said modular and convertible power supply.

11. A portable camera system as claimed in claim 10 wherein said modular and convertible power supply includes quick disconnect type battery cartridges.

12. A portable camera system as claimed in claim 11 wherein said quick disconnect type battery cartridges includes different battery chemistries.

13. A portable camera system as claimed in claim 12 wherein said quick disconnect type battery cartridges may have different voltages.
