Abstract

The present invention is directed to system, methods and computer program products for generating a graphical module for the display of a query-specific content. The method according to one embodiment comprises receiving a query, determining a category identifier for the query and retrieving a category template corresponding to the category identifier for the query. At least one template query is performed, the template query corresponding to a request for data specified by the category template, and a template module is generated that comprises the data retrieved by the template query. The template module is combined with a search results page responsive to the query for display to a user.

Claims

1. A method for generating a graphical module for the display of a query-specific content, the method comprising:

receiving a query;

determining a category identifier for the query;

retrieving a category template corresponding to the category identifier for the query;

retrieving one or more data elements identified by the category template;

generating an interactive module according to presentation data stored within the category template; and

combining the interactive module with a search results page responsive to the query for display to a user.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the query comprises a search query submitted to a search engine.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein extracting the category identifier comprises locating the query in one or more category databases.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein performing at least one template query further comprises:

retrieving a plurality of individual results retrieved in response to a template query; and

storing a plurality of individual resources, wherein the number of stored individual resources is below a predetermined threshold.

5. The method of claim 4 wherein displaying comprises displaying a subset of the stored individual resources.

6. The method of claim 5 wherein displaying comprises:

hiding one or more remaining stored individual resources; and

displaying one or more individual resources in response to a user interaction.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the user interaction comprises a mouse over.

8. The method of claim 6 wherein the user interaction comprises a mouse click.

9. The method of claim 1 wherein generating the interactive module comprises generating an HTML file.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein combining comprises generating a search results page.

11. A system for generating a graphical module for the display of a query-specific content, the system comprising:

one or more client devices couple to a network;

a search provider coupled to the network operative to receive one or more search queries from the client devices, the search provider comprising;

an extraction module operative to determine a category identifier for the query;

a template storage module operative to retrieve a category template corresponding to the category identifier extracted from the query;

a template creation module operative to retrieve one or more data elements identified by the category template and generate an interactive module according to presentation data stored within the category template; and

a search server operative to combine the interactive module with a search results page for display to a user.

12. The system of claim 11 wherein the query comprises a search query submitted to the search engine.

13. The system of claim 11 wherein the template creation module is operative to:

retrieve a plurality of individual results retrieved in response to a template query; and

store a plurality of individual resources, wherein the number of stored individual resources is below a predetermined threshold.

14. The system of claim 13 wherein the search server displays a subset of the stored individual resources.

15. The system of claim 14 wherein the search server displays a plurality of remaining stored individual resources and displaying all individual resources in response to a user interaction.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the user interaction comprises a mouse over.

17. The system of claim 15 wherein the user interaction comprises a mouse click.

18. The system of claim 11 wherein the interactive module comprises generating an HTML file.

19. Computer readable media comprising program code for execution by a programmable processor that instructs the processor to perform a method for generating a graphical module for the display of a query-specific content, the computer readable media comprising:

program code for receiving a query;

program code for determining a category identifier for the query;

program code for retrieving a category template corresponding to the category identifier for the query;

program code for retrieving one or more data elements identified by the category template;

program code for generating an interactive module according to presentation data stored within the category template; and

program code for combining the interactive module with a search results page responsive to the query for display to a user.

20. The computer readable media of claim 19 wherein program code for extracting the category identifier comprises program code for locating the query in one or more category databases.

21. The computer readable media of claim 19 wherein program code for performing at least one template query further comprises:

program code for retrieving a plurality of individual results retrieved in response to a template query; and

program code for storing a plurality of individual resources, wherein the number of stored individual resources is below a predetermined threshold.

22. The computer readable media of claim 21 wherein program code for displaying comprises program code for displaying a subset of the stored individual resources.

23. The computer readable media of claim 22 wherein program code for displaying comprises:

program code for hiding one or more remaining stored individual resources; and

program code for displaying one or more individual resources in response to a user interaction.

24. The computer readable media of claim 19 wherein program code for generating the interactive module comprises program code for generating an HTML file.

25. The computer readable media of claim 19 wherein program code for combining comprises program code for generating a search results page.
