Abstract

Methods, apparatus and systems for sharing information related to broadcast programs are described. One of the methods includes receiving data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program, receiving data identifying at least one recipient, and communicating information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient. The method may also include identifying a subsequent broadcast of the program to the at least one recipient, and communicating data indicative of the subsequent broadcast of the program to the at least one recipient. Other aspects include systems, apparatus, and devices for sharing information related to broadcast programs.

Claims

1. A method of sharing information related to broadcast programs, comprising:

identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receiving information identifying at least one recipient; and

communicating information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein communicating information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient further comprises communicating information provided by a user associated with the program.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein communicating information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient further comprises communicating data for at least part of the identified portion.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the at least part of the identified portion data comprises about 30 seconds of the program.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the at least a portion of the first broadcast comprises receiving at least one user input during the broadcast.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the at least one user input comprises at least one keypress.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein identifying the at least a portion of a first broadcast of the program comprises:

rendering the first broadcast of the program; and

receiving an input indicative of the at least a portion of the first broadcast of the program during the rendering of said first broadcast.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least a portion of the first broadcast of the program further comprises a temporal location in the program.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the temporal location comprises an elapsed time.

10. The method of claim 1, further comprising storing data indicative of the identified portion of the program.

11. The method of claim 1, further comprising outputting a notification of a subsequent broadcast proximate to the identified portion of the program.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein outputting the notification further comprises outputting the notification at a specified time interval prior to the identified portion of the program.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein outputting the notification comprises at least one of generating a sound and displaying data on a display.

14. The method of claim 11, further comprising identifying the subsequent broadcast of the program.

15. The method of claim 14, wherein identifying the subsequent broadcast of the program comprises outputting an identifier for the subsequent broadcast of the program.

16. The method of claim 14, wherein identifying the subsequent broadcast comprises identifying the subsequent broadcast based on data defining a program guide.

17. The method of claim 11, further comprising rendering the subsequent broadcast starting at about the start of the identified portion.

18. The method of claim 11, further comprising receiving the subsequent broadcast starting at about the start of the identified portion.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein receiving the subsequent broadcast comprises receiving a wireless signal indicative of the subsequent broadcast.

20. An apparatus for sharing information related to broadcast programs, comprising:

a network interface configured to communicate over a network; and

a processor configured to;

identify at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receive information identifying at least one recipient; and

communicate information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient over the network.

21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to communicate information provided by a user associated with the program to the at least one recipient over the network.

22. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to communicate data for at least part of the identified portion to the at least one recipient over the network.

23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the at least part of the identified portion data comprises about 30 seconds of the program.

24. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured identify the at least a portion of the first broadcast by receiving at least one user input during the broadcast.

25. The apparatus of claim 24, wherein the at least one user input comprises at least one keypress.

26. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to:

render the first broadcast of the program; and

receive an input indicative of the at least a portion of the first broadcast of the program during the rendering of said first broadcast.

27. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the at least a portion of the first broadcast of the program further comprises a temporal location in the program.

28. The apparatus of claim 27, wherein the temporal location comprises an elapsed time.

29. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising a storage and wherein the processor is further configured to store to the storage data indicative of the identified portion of the program.

30. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the processor is further configured to output a notification of a subsequent broadcast proximate to the identified portion of the program.

31. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the processor is further configured to output the notification at a specified time interval prior to the identified portion of the program.

32. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the notification comprises data configured to be output using a loudspeaker to generate a sound.

33. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the notification comprises data configured to be output by displaying the notification data on a display of a recipient device.

34. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the processor is further configured to identify the subsequent broadcast of the program.

35. The apparatus of claim 33, wherein the processor is further configured to output an identifier for the subsequent broadcast of the program.

36. The apparatus of claim 33, wherein the processor is further configured to identify the subsequent broadcast based on data defining a program guide.

37. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the processor is further configured to render the subsequent broadcast starting at about the start of the identified portion.

38. The apparatus of claim 30, wherein the processor is further configured to receive the subsequent broadcast over the network starting at about the start of the identified portion.

39. The apparatus of claim 38, wherein the network interface comprises a wireless receiver configured to receive a wireless signal indicative of the subsequent broadcast over the network.

40. An apparatus, comprising:

means for communicating over a network; and

means for processing configured to;

identify at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receive information identifying at least one recipient; and

communicate information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient over the network.

41. A computer-program product, comprising:

a computer readable medium comprising codes executable by at least one computer to;

identify at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receive information identifying at least one recipient; and

communicate information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient.

42. A method of sharing information related to broadcast programs, comprising:

receiving data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receiving data identifying at least one recipient; and

communicating information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient.

43. The method of claim 42, wherein the data identifying at least a portion of the program further comprises information provided by a user associated with the program.

44. The method of claim 42, further comprising identifying a subsequent broadcast of the program.

45. The method of claim 42, further comprising storing the at least a portion of the program.

46. The method of claim 44, further comprising communicating data indicative of the subsequent broadcast of the program to the at least one recipient.

47. The method of claim 42, wherein communicating information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient further comprises communicating data for at least part of the identified portion.

48. The method of claim 47, wherein communicating data for at least part of the identified portion comprises communicating the identified portion via a unicast stream.

49. The method of claim 47, wherein the at least part of the identified portion data comprises about 30 seconds of the program.

50. The method of claim 42, wherein the data identifying the at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program comprises data indicative of a user.

51. The method of claim 50, further comprising storing the data identifying the at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program in association with the data indicative of the user.

52. The method of claim 51, further comprising outputting data identifying at least one program associated with the user.

53. The method of claim 52, wherein outputting the data comprises generating at least one of a web page, an XML document, or data formatted for display on a mobile device.

54. The method of claim 51, further comprising outputting data identifying at least one user associated with the program.

55. The method of claim 54, wherein outputting the data comprises generating at least one of a web page, an XML document, or data formatted for display on a mobile device.

56. The method of claim 51, further comprising generating statistical data associated with the program.

57. The method of claim 56, further comprising outputting the statistical data associated with the program.

58. The method of claim 56, wherein the statistical data comprises popularity of the program.

59. The method of claim 58, wherein generating statistical data comprising the popularity of the program comprises incrementing a count associated with the program in response to receiving the data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program.

60. An apparatus for sharing information related to broadcast programs, comprising:

a network interface configured to communicate over a network; and

a processor configured to;

receive data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receive data identifying at least one recipient; and

communicate information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient over the network.

61. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the data identifying at least a portion of the program further comprises information provided by a user associated with the program.

62. The apparatus of claim 60, further comprising a storage configured to store the at least a portion of the program.

63. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the processor is further configured to identify a subsequent broadcast of the program to the at least one recipient.

64. The apparatus of claim 63, wherein the processor is further configured to communicate data indicative of the subsequent broadcast of the program to the at least one recipient over the network.

65. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the processor is further configured to communicate data for at least part of the identified portion to the recipient over the network.

66. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the processor is configured to communicate data for at least part of the identified portion via a unicast stream.

67. The apparatus of claim 65, wherein the at least part of the identified portion data comprises about 30 seconds of the program.

68. The apparatus of claim 60, wherein the data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program comprises data indicative of a user.

69. The apparatus of claim 68, wherein the processor is further configured to store the data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program in association with the data indicative of the user.

70. The apparatus of claim 69, wherein the processor is further configured to output data identifying at least one program associated with the user.

71. The apparatus of claim 70, wherein the data identifying the at least one program associated with the user is output in at least one of a web page, an XML document, or data formatted for display on a mobile device.

72. The apparatus of claim 69, wherein the processor is further configured to output data identifying at least one user associated with the program.

73. The apparatus of claim 72, wherein the data identifying at least one user associated with the program is output in at least one of a web page, an XML document, or data formatted for display on a mobile device.

74. The apparatus of claim 69, wherein the processor is further configured to generate statistical data associated with the program.

75. The apparatus of claim 74, wherein the processor is further configured to output the statistical data associated with the program.

76. The apparatus of claim 74, wherein the statistical data comprises popularity of the program.

77. The apparatus of claim 76, wherein the processor is further configured to generate statistical data comprising the popularity of the program by incrementing a count associated with the program in response to receiving the data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program.

78. An apparatus, comprising:

means for communicating over a network; and

means for processing configured to;

receive data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receive data identifying at least one recipient; and

communicate information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient over the network.

79. A computer-program product, comprising:

a computer readable medium comprising codes executable by at least one computer to;

receive data identifying at least a portion of a first broadcast of a program;

receive data identifying at least one recipient; and

communicate information indicative of the identified at least a portion of the program to the at least one recipient.
