Abstract

A method to interact with a local USB device is disclosed. A message is received from the local USB device. Predetermined information is extracted from a proper subset of the message. The extracted information is transmitted to a local process.

Claims

1. A client configured to interact with a local USB device comprising:

a local message analyzer that extracts predetermined information from a subset of a message;

an inbound interface to receive messages from the local USB device for the local message analyzer; and

an outbound interface to transmit the extracted information from the local message analyzer to a local device.

2. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the local message analyzer aggregates extracted information from a plurality of messages.

3. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the local device is a video output device.

4. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the local device is a video output device comprising a hardware cursor.

5. A client as recited in claim 1, further comprising an interface to transmit the extracted information from the local message analyzer to a remote host controller driver.

6. A client as recited in claim 1, further comprising an interface to transmit server messages from the local message analyzer to a remote host controller driver, wherein the local message analyzer analyzes a message to determine a server message.

7. A client as recited in claim 1, further comprising an interface to transmit an aggregate of extracted information from a plurality of messages, wherein the local message analyzer aggregates extracted information from a plurality of messages.

8. A client as recited in claim 1, further comprising an interface to receive a remote configuration for predetermination for the local message analyzer.

9. A client as recited in claim 1, further comprising an interface to receive a remote configuration for predetermination for the local message analyzer and a memory coupled to the local message analyzer configured to store the remote configuration.

10. A client as recited in claim 1, further comprising an interface to receive a remote configuration for predetermination for the local message analyzer, wherein the remote configuration is based on enumeration of the local USB device.

11. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the local USB device is a USB pointing device.

12. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the extracted information is spatial.

13. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the extracted information is an event.

14. A client as recited in claim 1, wherein the subset of the message is a proper subset of the message.

15. A server configured to interact with a remote USB device comprising:

a host controller driver for the remote USB device;

an outbound interface to transmit a configuration for predetermination from the host controller driver to a message analyzer that is associated with the remote USB device; and

an inbound interface to receive messages from the message analyzer for the host controller driver.

16. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the message comprises an extracted information from the message analyzer.

17. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the message comprises a message from the remote USB device.

18. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the message comprises an aggregate of extracted information from a plurality of messages from the remote USB device.

19. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the configuration is based on enumeration of the remote USB device.

20. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the remote U.S.B device is a USB pointing device.

21. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the message comprises an extracted information from the message analyzer, and the extracted information is positional information.

22. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the message comprises an extracted information from the message analyzer, and the extracted information is click action information.

23. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the configuration of the message analyzer is based in part on a driver local to the server.

24. A server as recited in claim 15, wherein the configuration of the message analyzer is based in part on a pointing device driver local to the server.

25. A method to interact with a local USB device comprising:

receiving a message from the local USB device;

extracting predetermined information from a proper subset of the message; and

transmitting the extracted information to a local process.

26. A method as recited in claim 25, further comprising receiving a configuration for predetermination from a remote host controller driver.

27. A method as recited in claim 25, further comprising aggregating extracted information from a plurality of messages.

28. A method to interact with a remote USB device comprising:

transmitting a configuration for predetermination to a message analyzer that is associated with the remote USB device;

receiving messages from the message analyzer; and

performing a host controller driver service for the remote U.S.B device.
