1. A respiratory belt system for use in a magnetic resonance imaging environment, having—
- a belt for being wrapped around the body of a person to be examined wherein the belt is elastically extendable,an optical transducer comprisinga light source,an optical pattern to which light from the light source is directed andan optical sensor to which light transmitted or reflected by the optical pattern is detected, wherein the optical pattern is coupled to the belt so that during an extension or contraction of the belt the optical pattern is moved relative to the light source for a distance being substantially proportional to the length of the extension or the contraction of the belt so that the optical sensor creates a measurement signal corresponding to the change of length of the belt.

Abstract
The invention relates to a respiratory belt system for being used in a magnetic resonance imaging environment.
This system comprises a belt being elastically extendable, an optical transducer and an optical pattern being coupled to the belt. During extension or contraction of the belt the optical pattern is moved relative to the light source for a distance that is substantially identical to the length of the extension or the contraction of the belt. The sensor creates a measurement signal corresponding to the change in length of the belt.
