Abstract

There is disclosed a method of controlling a television system which can connect to a printing apparatus, and has a display unit. Display/non-display of the status information is set (S13, S14). Status information of the printing apparatus is received from the printing apparatus (S101). The control is made to display the status information on the display unit when the display of the status information is set, and not to display the status information on the display unit when the non-display of the status information is set (S102, S103).

Claims

1. A television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, comprising:

a display unit;

a reception unit adapted to receive status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus;

a setting unit adapted to set whether or not to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with the received status information; and

a control unit adapted to when said setting unit sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus, control to make the status of the external printing apparatus displayed on said display unit, and when said setting unit sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus, control to make the status information not displayed on said display unit and control the external printing apparatus so as to display the status of the external printing apparatus on a display unit provided on the external printing apparatus.

14. The television system according to claim 1, wherein said setting unit sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each of the itets program to be broadcast.

19. The television system according to claim 1, further comprising a determination unit adapted to determine whether or not contents whose broadcasting is underway correspond to a main title,

wherein said setting unit sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of the main title, and sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of contents other than the main title.

6. A television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, comprising:

a display unit;

a reception unit adapted to receive status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus; and

a setting unit adapted to set whether or not to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with the received status information,

wherein said reception unit further receives information indicating whether or not the external printing apparatus has a display unit, and when the external printing apparatus has the display unit, said setting unit sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit, and when the external printing apparatus does not have any display unit, said setting unit sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit.

26. The television system according to claim 6, wherein said setting unit sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

9. A television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, comprising:

a display unit;

a reception unit adapted to receive status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus;

a setting unit adapted to set whether or not to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with the received status information;

a plurality of input units adapted to input contents from a plurality of information sources including broadcasting; and

a selection unit adapted to select one of the plurality of information sources and make said display unit display contents from the selected information source,

wherein said setting unit sets of whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with the status information according to the information source selected by said selection unit.

10. The television system according to claim 9, wherein when the information source selected by said selection unit is the information source which mainly provides temporary contents, said setting unit sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit.

27. The television system according to claim 9, wherein said setting unit sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

28. The television system according to claim 10, wherein said setting unit sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

13. A television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus comprising:

a display unit;

a reception unit adapted to receive status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus;

a setting unit adapted to set whether or not to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with the received status information; and

a unit adapted to designate a time period in which the status of the external printing apparatus is displayed or not displayed,

wherein said setting unit sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit during the designated time period.

29. The television system according to claim 13, wherein said setting unit sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

16. A method of controlling a television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, and has a display unit, comprising:

a setting step of setting whether or not to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with status information of the external printing apparatus;

a reception step of receiving status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus; and

a display step of controlling, when it is set to display the status of the external printing apparatus in the setting step, to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit, and when it is set not to display the status of the external printing apparatus in the setting step, not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit and to display the status of the external printing apparatus on a display unit provided on the external printing apparatus.

18. A storage medium readable by an information processing apparatus, the medium storing a program for implementing a control method of a television system according to claim 16.

24. The control method according to claim 16, wherein said setting step sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

25. The control method according to claim 16, further comprising a determination step of determining whether or not contents whose broadcasting is underway correspond to a main title,

wherein said setting step sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of the main title, and sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of contents other than the main title.

20. A method of controlling a television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, and has a display unit, comprising:

a reception step of receiving status information of the external printing apparatus and information indicating whether or not the external printing apparatus has a display unit from the external printing apparatus; and

a setting step of setting, when the external printing apparatus has the display unit, not to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the basis of the received status information, and when the external printing apparatus does not have any display unit, setting to display a status of the external printing apparatus on the basis of the received status information.

30. The control method according to claim 20, wherein said setting step sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

33. The control method according to claim 20, further comprising a determination step of determining whether or not contents whose broadcasting is underway correspond to a main title,

wherein said setting step sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of the main title, and sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of contents other than the main title.

36. A storage medium readable by an information processing apparatus, the medium storing a program for implementing a control method of a television system according to claim 20.

21. A method of controlling a television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, and has a display unit, comprising:

a reception step of receiving status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus;

a plurality of input steps of inputting contents from a plurality of information sources including broadcasting;

a selection step of selecting one of the plurality of information sources and making said display unit display contents from the selected information source; and

a setting step of setting whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit in accordance with the status information according to the information source selected in said selection step.

22. The control method according to claim 21, wherein when the information source selected in said selection step is the information source which mainly provides temporary contents, said setting step sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit.

31. The control method according to claim 21, wherein said setting step sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

34. The control method according to claim 21, further comprising a determination step of determining whether or not contents whose broadcasting is underway correspond to a main title,

wherein said setting step sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of the main title, and sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of contents other than the main title.

37. A storage medium readable by an information processing apparatus, the medium storing a program for implementing a control method of a television system according to claim 21.

23. A method of controlling a television system which can connect to an external printing apparatus, and has a display unit, comprising:

a reception step of receiving status information of the external printing apparatus from the external printing apparatus;

a designation step of designating a time period in which a status of the external printing apparatus is displayed or not displayed; and

a setting step of setting whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus during the designated time period.

32. The control method according to claim 23, wherein said setting step sets whether or not to display the status of the external printing apparatus on the display unit for each program to be broadcast.

35. The control method according to claim 23, further comprising a determination step of determining whether or not contents whose broadcasting is underway correspond to a main title,

wherein said setting step sets not to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of the main title, and sets to display the status of the external printing apparatus during display of contents other than the main title.

38. A storage medium readable by an information processing apparatus, the medium storing a program for implementing a control method of a television system according to claim 23.
