Abstract

Grouping a set of data is disclosed. In some embodiments, a set of data is grouped with respect to a column and/or a row associated with the set of data in response to receiving a selection of an option to group the set of data with respect to the column and/or the row. In some embodiments, the grouping of the set of data is based on real time values of the set of data and is automatically and dynamically updated in response to changes in the set of data.

Claims

1. A computer program product for processing a set of data, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

receiving an indication to group a set of data with respect to respective values of an attribute of each of a plurality of records comprising the set of data; and

grouping the records comprising the set of data based at least in part on the attribute.

2. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein the plurality of records comprises rows of the set of data and the attribute comprises a specified column of the set of data.

3. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein a grouping of the set of data is based on real time values of the set of data.

4. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein a view and/or a grouping of the set of data is dynamically updated in response to a change in the set of data.

5. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein grouping the set of data changes a view or layout of the set of data.

6. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein grouping the records comprising the set of data comprises sorting the records comprising the set of data with respect to the attribute.

7. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein grouping the records comprising the set of data comprises pivoting a portion of the set of data associated with the attribute.

8. The computer program product recited in claim 1, further comprising computer instructions for creating one or more group divisions for the values of the attribute.

9. The computer program product recited in claim 8, wherein a group division is created for each unique value of the attribute.

10. The computer program product recited in claim 8, further comprising computer instructions for selecting an interval for group divisions of values of the attribute.

11. The computer program product recited in claim 8, further comprising computer instructions for adding a group division record to the set of data for each group division.

12. The computer program product recited in claim 11, further comprising computer instructions for including one or more summary functions with one or more group divisions records.

13. The computer program product recited in claim 12, wherein one or more summary functions are dynamically updated in response to a change in the set of data that affects the one or more summary functions.

14. The computer program product recited in claim 1, wherein the indication comprises an indication to group the set of data with respect to respective values of a plurality of attributes of each of a plurality of records comprising the set of data and further comprising computer instructions for grouping the records comprising the set of data based at least in part on the plurality of attributes.

15. A system for processing a set of data, comprising:

a processor configured to;

receive an indication to group a set of data with respect to respective values of an attribute of each of a plurality of records comprising the set of data; and

group the records comprising the set of data based at least in part on the attribute; and

a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

16. The system recited in claim 15, wherein a grouping of the set of data is based on real time values of the set of data.

17. The system recited in claim 15, wherein a view and/or a grouping of the set of data is dynamically updated in response to a change in the set of data.

18. A method for processing a set of data, comprising:

receiving an indication to group a set of data with respect to respective values of an attribute of each of a plurality of records comprising the set of data; and

grouping the records comprising the set of data based at least in part on the attribute.

19. The method recited in claim 18, wherein a grouping of the set of data is based on real time values of the set of data.

20. The method recited in claim 18, wherein a view and/or a grouping of the set of data is dynamically updated in response to a change in the set of data.
