wherein the at least one impulse coexists on the electrically conductive guided media with wave based transmissions sent over the electrically conductive guided media.

an electrically conductive guided medium; a plurality of line interface devices operatively connected to the electrically conductive guided medium; each of the plurality of line interface devices comprising a transmitter for transmitting data using at least one impulse based on an amplitude modulated ultra wideband impulse, the impulse having characteristics at least partially determined by properties of the electrically conductive guided medium and sending the at least one impulse over the electrically conductive guided medium, a receiver for receiving at least one impulse based on an ultra wideband impulse waveform from the electrically conductive guided medium, a processor operatively connected to the receiver and the transmitter for representing data as the at least one impulse and for recovering data based on the at least one received impulse, and a memory operatively connected to the processor.

a transmitter operatively connected to an electrically conductive guided media for transmitting data using at least one amplitude modulated impulse based on a ultra wideband impulse and properties of the electrically conductive guided media and sending the at least one impulse over the electrically conductive medium; a receiver operatively connected to the electrically conductive guided media for receiving through the electrically conductive guided media at least one impulse based on an ultra wideband impulse; a processor operatively connected to the receiver and the transmitter for representing data as the at least one impulse and for recovering data based on the at least one received impulse; and a memory operatively connected to the processor.

representing data using at least one amplitude modulated impulse based on an ultra-wideband wave form, the impulse having characteristics at least partially based on properties of the guided medium and wherein at least one of the properties is associated with channel estimation of the guided medium;
