Abstract

The present disclosure relates to methods and systems for use of photolyzable nitric oxide donors for the treatment of sexual dysfunction.

Claims

1. A method for treating sexual dysfunction comprising:

administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual; and

illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

systemically administering the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to the individual.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

locally administering the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to the individual.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

implanting at least one device that facilitates release of nitric oxide within the individual upon illumination.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

implanting at least one device that facilitates release of nitric oxide within a genital region of the individual upon illumination.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more genital regions of the individual.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual through use of at least one internal light source.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual through use of at least one implanted light source.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual with ultraviolet light.

13. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual with visible light.

14. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual with infrared light.

15. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual with one or more wavelengths of light specifically selected to facilitate release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors.

16. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual with one or more light sources that emit light in response to one or more signals.

17. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating one or more regions of the individual through use of one or more quantum dots.

18. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating the individual to treat male erectile dysfunction.

19. The method of claim 1, wherein the illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat the sexual dysfunction comprises:

illuminating the individual to treat female arousal disorder.

20. A system comprising:

circuitry for administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual; and

circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction.

21. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

circuitry for administering the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat male erectile dysfunction.

22. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

circuitry for administering the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat female arousal disorder.

23. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

circuitry for systemically administering the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to the individual.

24. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual comprises:

circuitry for locally administering the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to the individual.

27. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction comprises:

circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat male erectile dysfunction.

30. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction comprises:

circuitry for illuminating one or more genital regions of the individual through use of at least one internal light source.

31. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction comprises:

circuitry for illuminating one or more genital regions of the individual through use of at least one implanted light source.

32. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction comprises:

circuitry for illuminating one or more genital regions of the individual with ultraviolet light.

circuitry for illuminating one or more genital regions of the individual with one or more implants that emit light in response to one or more signals.

37. The system of claim 20, wherein the circuitry for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction comprises:

circuitry for illuminating one or more genital regions of the individual through use of one or more quantum dots.

a signal-bearing medium bearing;

one or more instructions for administering one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to an individual; and

one or more instructions for illuminating the individual with light that facilitates release of nitric oxide from the one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors to treat sexual dysfunction.

40. The system of claim 39, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a computer-readable medium.

41. The system of claim 39, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a recordable medium.

42. The system of claim 39, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a communications medium.

43. A system comprising:

a signal-bearing medium bearing;

one or more instructions for presenting information about use of one or more photolyzable nitric oxide donors for treatment of sexual dysfunction.

44. The system of claim 43, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a computer-readable medium.

45. The system of claim 43, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a recordable medium.

46. The system of claim 43, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a communications medium.

47. A system comprising:

a signal-bearing medium bearing;

one or more instructions for presenting information about use of one or more light sources that are configured to facilitate release of nitric oxide for treatment of sexual dysfunction.

48. The system of claim 47, wherein the signal-bearing medium includes a computer-readable medium.
