Abstract

A method, medium and implementing processing system are provided for book marking a combination of frame URLs within a frameset and allowing the sharing on multiple PCs the saved form data that may have been filled in. The system uses an image as a hotspot, containing a complex target destination in the form of an XML structure with multiple URLs for multiple frames as well as captured form data. This system combines file types such as XML and JPG, e.g. as in sample file name ‘MyCapturedFramesAndFormData.XML.JPG’ or ‘MyCapturedFramesAndFormData.XML.GIF’. This combination provides a surprising effect compared to the prior systems, namely, launching the image in an enhanced web browser or in a web browser containing a new plug-in, displays the frame just as it was when saved, including frame set and data input to displayed forms.

Claims

1. A method for processing a single mixed-format file, said mixed-format file containing more than one file-type designator, said method comprising:

accessing a mixed-format file;

determining that said mixed-format file contains information in at least first and second different file formats; and

using information in one of said file formats to restore an original displayed presentation including a re-creation of forms in a first format together with a re-creation of text data in a second format, said text data having been previously input to said forms by a user.

The method as set forth in claim 1 and further including extracting information from information contained in one of said first and second formats and using said extracted information to restore a display of an original presentation on a display device, said original presentation including information in both said first and second formats.

3. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein one of said first and second file formats is a graphics file format.

4. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein one of said first and second file formats is a text processing file format.

5. The method as set forth in claim 3 wherein said graphics file format is a “

JPG”

file-type format.

6. The method as set forth in claim 3 wherein said graphics file format is a “

GIF”

file-type format.

7. The method as set forth in claim 4 wherein said text processing file format is an “

XML”

file-type format.

8. The method as set forth in claim 1 wherein said single mixed format file has been transmitted from a remote computer system.

9. A storage medium, said storage medium being selectively coupled to processing circuitry, said storage medium containing indicia readable by said processing circuitry for providing program signals for processing a single mixed-format file, said mixed-format file containing more than one file-type designator, said program signals being effective for:

accessing a mixed-format file;

determining that said mixed-format file contains information in at least first and second different file formats; and

using information in one of said file formats to restore an original displayed presentation including a re-creation of forms in a first format together with a re-creation of text data in a second format, said text data having been previously input to said forms by a user.

The medium as set forth in claim 9 and further including extracting information from information contained in one of said first and second formats and using said extracted information to restore a display of an original presentation on a display device, said original presentation including information in both said first and second formats.

11. The medium as set forth in claim 9 wherein one of said first and second file formats is a graphics file format.

12. The medium as set forth in claim 9 wherein one of said first and second file formats is a text processing file format.

13. The medium as set forth in claim 11 wherein said graphics file format is a “

JPG”

file-type format.

14. The medium as set forth in claim 11 wherein said graphics file format is a “

GIF”

file-type format.

15. The medium as set forth in claim 12 wherein said text processing file format is an “

XML”

file-type format.

16. The medium as set forth in claim 9 wherein said single mixed format file has been transmitted from a remote computer system.

17. A system for processing a single mixed-format file, said mixed-format file containing more than one file-type designator, said system comprising:

means for accessing a mixed-format file;

determining that said mixed-format file contains information in at least first and second different file formats; and

using information in one of said file formats to restore an original displayed presentation including a re-creation of forms in a first format together with a re-creation of text data in a second format, said text data having been previously input to said forms by a user.

The system as set forth in claim 17 and further including means for extracting information from information contained in one of said first and second formats and means for using said extracted information to restore a display of an original presentation on a display device, said original presentation including information in both said first and second formats.

19. The system as set forth in claim 17 wherein one of said first and second file formats is a graphics file format.

20. The system as set forth in claim 17 wherein one of said first and second file formats is a text processing file format.
