Abstract

An apparatus for communicating health care data from a sender to a receiver is provided. The apparatus has a first computer system, a second computer system, and a rules engine. The first computer system has health care data stored therein. The second computer system is in operable communication with, and is configured to extract the health care data from, the first computer system. The rules engine normalizes the extracted health care data to a predefined format.

Claims

1. A system for communicating health care data between a plurality of insurer computer systems and a participant computer system comprising:

a data extraction computer configured to extract health care data from databases located on each of the insurer computer systems;

wherein data from matching fields from each of the databases are incompatible with each other;

wherein the incompatible data from the databases are uploaded into a staging database;

wherein a rules engine defines a plurality of health care data fields in a normalized format;

wherein said rules engine matches the incompatible data with corresponding health care data fields in the normalized format and enters the incompatible data into the corresponding health care data fields in the normalized format;

wherein the rules engine normalizes the extracted health care data by converting the incompatible care data into the normalized format;

wherein the incompatible data is homogenized to become normalized health care data; and

wherein the data extraction computer is configured to transmit the normalized health care data to a participant computer system.
