Abstract

In an exemplary embodiment of the invention, an authorized sample receiver (ASR) comprises a processor that is configured to verify biometric sample data in order to create registered biometric sample data. The ASR may also comprise a communications device configured to receive a transaction request from an RF transaction device, wherein the transaction request comprises transaction biometric sample data, a reload protocol update request, and an RF device identification code. The ASR may also be configured to authorize the transaction request in response to the transaction biometric sample data substantially matching the registered biometric sample data. The ASR may further comprise a reload protocol data file associated with the device identification code, and the reload protocol data file may be configured to be updated in accordance with the reload protocol update request.

Claims

1. An authorized sample receiver (ASR) comprising:

a processor configured to verify biometric sample data to create registered biometric sample data;

a communications device configured to receive a transaction request from an RF device, wherein the transaction request comprises transaction biometric sample data, a reload protocol update request, and an RF device identification code, wherein the ASR is configured to authorize the transaction request in response to the transaction biometric sample data substantially matching the registered biometric sample data; and

a reload protocol data file associated with the device identification code, wherein the reload protocol data file is configured to be updated in accordance with the reload protocol update request.

The ASR of claim 1, wherein the communications device is further configured to receive second biometric sample data associated with the RF device identification code, wherein the processor is configured to verify the second biometric sample data to activate the RF device, and wherein the ASR is configured to store the biometric sample data as registered biometric sample data in response to the second biometric sample data substantially matching the biometric sample data.

3. The ASR of claim 2, wherein the communications device comprises at least one of a network interface, a wireless communications device, a wired communications device, or an RF identification reader.

4. The ASR of claim 1, further comprising a preloaded value data file associated with the device identification code,

5. The ASR of claim 4, wherein the preloaded value data file comprises a monetary value greater than zero configured to be preloaded into the preloaded value data file prior to usage of the RF device.

6. The ASR of claim 5, wherein the ASR is configured to compare a transaction amount to the monetary value, wherein the transaction request comprises the transaction amount.

7. The ASR of claim 6, wherein the ASR is configured to retrieve at least a portion of the transaction amount from the preloaded value data file and to provide a transaction approved message and the at least a portion of the transaction amount to a merchant.

8. The ASR of claim 7, wherein the ASR is configured to deduct the at least a portion of the transaction amount from the preloaded value data file.

9. The ASR of claim 1, further comprising a biometric sensor configured to sense a biometric sample to create the biometric sample data.

10. The ASR of claim 1, wherein the biometric sample data is associated with a biometric sample of a user of the RF device.

11. An authorized sample receiver (ASR) comprising:

means for verifying biometric sample data to create registered biometric sample data;

means for receiving a transaction request from an RF device, wherein the transaction request comprises transaction biometric sample data, a reload protocol update request, and an RF device identification code, wherein the ASR is configured to authorize the transaction request in response to the transaction biometric sample data substantially matching the registered biometric sample data; and

means for updating a reload protocol data file associated with the device identification code, wherein the reload protocol data file is configured to be updated in accordance with the reload protocol update request.

12. The ASR of claim 11, further comprising means for receiving second biometric sample data associated with the RF device identification code.

13. The ASR of claim 12, further comprising means for verifying the second biometric sample data to activate the RF device.

14. The ASR of claim 13, further comprising means for storing the biometric sample data as registered biometric sample data in response to the second biometric sample data substantially matching the biometric sample data.

15. The ASR of claim 11, further comprising means for sensing the biometric sample to create the biometric sample data, wherein the biometric sample is associated with a user of the RF device.

16. The ASR of claim 11, further comprising means for comparing a transaction amount to a monetary value, wherein a preloaded value data file associated with the device identification code comprises the monetary value, and wherein the transaction request comprises the transaction amount.

17. The ASR of claim 16, further comprising means for retrieving at least a portion of the transaction amount from the preloaded value data file.

18. The ASR of claim 17, further comprising-means for providing a transaction approved message and the at least a portion of the transaction amount to a merchant.

19. The ASR of claim 18, further comprising means for deducting the at least a portion of the transaction amount from the preloaded value data file.

20. An integrated circuit component comprising software configured to provide instructions to a processor, the instructions comprising:

instructions to verify biometric sample data to create registered biometric sample data;

instructions to receive a transaction request from an RF device, wherein the transaction request comprises transaction biometric sample data, a reload protocol update request, and an RF device identification code;

instructions to authorize the transaction request in response to the transaction biometric sample data substantially matching the registered biometric sample data; and

instructions to update a reload protocol data file in accordance with the reload protocol update request, wherein the reload protocol data file is associated with the device identification code.
