Abstract

A method for a mobile phone to provide an unsuccessful call alert, including monitoring an outgoing call from a caller to a callee to determine if the callee is available, if the callee is not available, then automatically activating a message editor, automatically displaying a pre-defined call alert message, including an identifier of the caller and contact information for the caller, enabling the caller to edit the pre-defined call alert message, and sending the call alert message to the callee. A system is also described and claimed.

Claims

1. A method for a mobile phone to provide an unsuccessful call alert, comprising:

monitoring an outgoing call from a caller to a callee to determine if the callee is available;

if the callee is not available, then;

automatically activating a message editor;

automatically displaying a pre-defined call alert message, including an identifier of the caller and contact information for the caller;

enabling the caller to edit the pre-defined call alert message; and

sending the call alert message to the callee.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein said automatically displaying also includes a date &

time in the pre-defined alert message.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the contact information for the caller is a phone number for returning the call.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the contact information for the caller is an e-mail address for the caller.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the message editor is an SMS text message editor.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the message editor is an MMS message editor.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the message editor is an e-mail message editor.

8. The method of claim 1 further comprising, if the callee is not available, automatically presenting the caller with choices of (i) sending an SMS message, (ii) sending a MMS message, (iii) sending an e-mail message, or (iv) not sending a message, and wherein said automatically activating a message editor activates an SMS message editor, an MMS message editor, or an e-mail message editor according to the respective choice by the caller of (i), (ii) or (iii).

9. The method of claim 1 wherein said monitoring determines if the callee is available based on a duration of the call.

10. A call alert system, comprising:

a modem (i) for enabling a caller to place an outgoing call to a callee via wireless transmission, and (ii) for sending a call alert message to the callee;

a message editor for editing a pre-defined call alert message;

a call alerter (iii) for monitoring the outgoing call from the caller to the callee to determine if the callee is available, and, if the callee is not available, (iv) for activating said message editor, and (v) for displaying a pre-defined call alert message, including an identifier of the caller and contact information for the caller.

11. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein the pre-defined call alert message displayed by said call alerter also includes a date &

time.

12. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein the contact information for the caller is a phone number for returning the call.

13. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein the contact information for the caller is an e-mail address for the caller.

14. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein the message editor is an SMS text message editor.

15. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein the message editor is an MMS message editor.

16. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein the message editor is an e-mail message editor.

17. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein said message editor include an SMS message editor, an MMS message editor, and an email message editor, and wherein, if the callee is not available, said call alerter (iv.a) presents the caller with choices of (1) sending an SMS message, (2) sending a MMS message, (3) sending an e-mail message, or (4) not sending a message, and (iv.b) activates the SMS message editor, the MMS message editor, or the e-mail message editor according to the respective choice by the caller of (1), (2) or (3).

18. The call alert system of claim 10 wherein said call alerter determines if the callee is available based on a duration of the call.
