Abstract

A power supply that includes a housing for retaining the electronic components needed to operate a tattoo machine. The housing includes a first region in which the tattooing controls are located and a second region that includes a display screen. The first and second regions are separated from each so that a plastic covering can be drawn over only the first region to protect the tattooing controls while leaving the display screen unobscured.

Claims

1. A power supply for a tattooing machine, said power supply comprising:

a housing defining an interior cavity adapted to retain electronic components therein;

said housing comprising;

a first region; and

a second region disposed discretely from said first region;

one or more tattooing control members disposed in said first region;

said control members being operationally connectable to the electronic components within said housing to adjust outputs therefrom to the tattooing machine; and

a display screen provided in said second region;

said second region being free of tattooing control members; and

wherein one or more of the tattooing control members and the first region are adapted to be separately covered by a protective cover;

whereby said display screen is not obscured by the protective cover.

2. The power supply as defined in claim 1, wherein the housing has a first end and a second end and the first region is at the first end of the housing and the second region is at the second end of the housing.

3. The power supply as defined in claim 1, wherein the first region is substantially recessed relative to the second region.

4. The power supply as defined in claim 3, wherein the housing includes a bottom wall and a top wall;

and the first region forms part of the top wall of the housing and is disposed at a first distance away from the bottom wall thereof.

5. The power supply as defined in claim 4, wherein at least a portion of the second region forms another part of the top wall;

and the second region is disposed a second distance away from the bottom wall of the housing; and

wherein the second distance is greater than the first distance.

6. The power supply as defined in claim 5, further comprising a third region separating the first and second regions from each other.

7. The power supply as defined in claim 6, wherein the third region comprises a substantially vertical wall that extends from one side of the first region and connects to one side of the second region.

8. The power supply as defined in claim 5, wherein the housing further includes a front wall and a rear wall that extend between the bottom and top walls thereof;

and wherein a top surface of the first region is inclined at a first angle and slopes upwardly from the front wall toward the rear wall.

9. The power supply as defined in claim 8, wherein a section of the front wall forms another portion of the second region;

and the section of the front wall is inclined at a second angle and slopes upwardly from the front wall toward the rear wall.

10. The power supply as defined in claim 9, wherein the second angle is between twenty and forty degrees relative to vertical.

11. The power supply as defined in claim 10, wherein the second angle is thirty degrees relative to vertical.

12. The power supply as defined in claim 9, wherein the display screen is situated on the inclined section of the front wall.

13. The power supply as defined in claim 8, wherein the tattooing control members are provided on the inclined top surface of the first region.

14. The power supply as defined in claim 13, wherein the tattooing control members are flush with the top surface.

15. The power supply as defined in claim 14, wherein the tattooing control members are one of a membrane type control and a push button type control.

16. The power supply as defined in claim 13, wherein the tattooing control members include at least one rotary knob that extends outwardly from the top surface and is protected against impact by the second region that extends upwardly therebeyond.

17. The power supply as defined in claim 1, further comprising a first jack disposed in the second region proximate the display screen;

said first jack being adapted to engage a first cable that extends between the housing and one of a handheld tattooing machine and a foot-operable speed controller.

The power supply as defined in claim 17, further comprising a second jack disposed in the second region proximate the display screen, said second jack being adapted to engage a second cable that extends between the housing and the other of the handheld tattooing machine and the foot-operable speed controller.

19. In combination:

a power supply for a tattoo machine, said power supply comprising;

a housing defining an interior cavity adapted to retain electronic components therein;

said housing comprising;

a first region;

a second region that extends upwardly beyond the first region;

a third region disposed intermediate the first and second regions and being oriented at substantially right angles to each of the first and second regions,

one or more tattooing control members disposed in said first region;

said tattooing control members being operationally connectable to the electronic components within said housing;

a display screen provided in said second region;

said second region being free of tattooing control members; and

a protective cover that selectively is applied over one or more of the tattooing control members and does not engage the display screen.

20. The combination of claim 19, wherein the protective cover comprises one of a blister shield and a plastic bag.

21. The combination of claim 20, wherein the protective cover comprises the plastic bag and said bag includes a first sheet and a second sheet which define a cavity between them;

whereby said first region is receivable in the cavity of the cover such that an outer edge of the cover engages the third region of the housing and is thereby substantially prevented from obscuring the display screen in the second region.
