Abstract

A method, apparatus, and system are directed towards employing machine representations of phonemes to generate and manage domain names, and/or messaging addresses. A user of a computing device may provide an audio input signal such as obtained from human language sounds. The audio input signal is received at a phoneme encoder that converts the sounds into machine representations of the sounds using a phoneme representation viewable as a sequence of alpha-numeric values. The sequence of alpha-numeric values may then be combined with a host name, or the like to generate a URI, a message address, or the like. The generated URI, message address, or the like, may then be used to communication over a network.

Claims

1. A processor readable medium that includes data and instructions, wherein the execution of the instructions on a computing device provides for managing communications over a network by enabling actions, comprising:

receiving a voice input signal;

isolating segments of the voice input signal;

converting the isolated segments into a sequence of alpha-numeric values, wherein each of the alpha-numeric values are configured and arranged as phoneme representations of the voice input signal;

if the voice input signal is to be employed for use in a domain name, generating a

Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) by appending to the sequence of alpha-numeric values at least a top level domain identifier; and

if the URI is registered, employing the URI to communicate over the network with another computing device.

2. The processor readable medium of claim 1, wherein the actions, further comprising:

if the URI is determined to be unregistered, receiving a request to register the URI.

3. The processor readable medium of claim 1, wherein converting the isolated segments into a sequence of alpha-numeric values, further comprises:

searching within the sequence of alpha-numeric values for pre-defined sub-sequences, and if the pre-defined sub-sequence is detected, deleting the pre-defined sub-sequence from within the sequence of alpha-numeric values.

4. The processor readable medium of claim 1, wherein generating the URI further comprises combining with the sequence of alpha-numeric values a pre-defined sub-sequence of alpha-numeric values.

5. The processor readable medium of claim 1, the actions, further comprising:

determining if the voice input signal is to be employed for use in a domain name based on at least one of an input from a user of the computing device, a status of a client application on the computing device; and

if the input or the client application status indicates that the voice input signal is to be employed for a messaging application, generating a messaging address by combining the sequence of alpha-numeric values with at least a message address domain-part, and

employing the generated messaging address as a destination address within a message header.

6. The processor readable medium of claim 1, wherein generating a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) further comprises:

appending to the sequence of alpha-numeric values at least a second level domain identifier.

7. A method for managing a communication over a network from a client device, comprising:

receiving, at the client device, an audio input signal;

converting the audio input signal into a sequence of alpha-numeric values representing phonemes;

determining an application associated with the audio input signal;

if the determined application is a client browser, generating a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) by appending to the sequence of alpha-numeric values at least a top level domain identifier, and if the URI is registered, employing the URI to communicate over the network with another computing device; and

if the determined application is a messaging client, generating a messaging address by combining the sequence of alpha-numeric values with at least a message address domain-part, and employing the generated message address to communicate a message over the network.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein generating the URI further comprises combining with the sequence of alpha-numeric values a pre-defined sub-sequence of alpha-numeric values.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein generating the URI or messaging address further comprises deleting pre-defined sub-sequences of alpha-numeric values within the sequence of alpha-numeric values.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein if the URI is determined to be unregistered, receiving at the client device, at least one of an error message, an offer to register the URI, or a list of possible alternative URIs.

11. The method of claim 7, wherein if the determined application is a voice application, performing actions, including:

generating a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) by appending to the sequence of alpha-numeric values at least a top level domain identifier;

using the URI to search for a phone number associated with the URI; and

providing the phone number to the voice application for use in placing a telephone call.

12. The method of claim 7, wherein the method of claim 7 is implemented as program instructions that are executed within a computing device.

13. A network device to manage a mobile sharing of multimedia content, comprising:

a transceiver to send and receive data over a network; and

a processor that is operative to perform actions, comprising;

receiving, from a client device, a voice input signal;

converting the voice input signal into a sequence of alpha-numeric values, wherein each of the alpha-numeric values are configured and arranged to represent phonemes of the voice input signal;

if the voice input signal is to be employed for use in a domain name, generating a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) by appending to the sequence of alpha-numeric values at least a top level domain identifier; and

providing to the client device the generated URI for use by the client device in communicating over the network.

14. The network device of claim 13, wherein the processor is operative to perform actions, further comprising:

if the voice input signal is to be employed in a messaging client application, generating a messaging address by combining the sequence of alpha-numeric values with at least a message address domain-part; and

providing the client device the generated message address for use by the client device in communicating a message over the network.

15. The network device of claim 13, wherein if the voice input signal is to be employed for use in a domain name is determined based on a signal from the client device.

16. The network device of claim 13, wherein generating the URI further comprises deleting from the sequence of alpha-numeric values defined sub-sequences.

17. A system for managing multimedia content over a network, comprising:

an audio interface component configured to receive an audio input signal;

a phoneme manager component that is configured to perform actions, including;

receiving the audio input signal;

converting the audio input signal into a sequence of alpha-numeric values representing phonemes;

generating one of a Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) or a messaging address by combining the sequence of alpha-numeric values with one of a domain identifier or a host identifier; and

sending the generated one of URI or messaging address to a client application configured to manage a communication over the network.

18. The system of claim 17, wherein generating the URI further comprises combining with the sequence of alpha-numeric values a pre-defined sub-sequence of alpha-numeric values.

19. The system of claim 17, wherein generating the messaging address further comprises combining the host or domain identifier and sequence of alpha-numeric values with a separator symbol.

20. The system of claim 17, wherein generating one of further comprises determining the client application and generating the one of based on the client application.
