1. A labeling machine being configured to label plastic beverage bottles with a wraparound label, said labeling machine comprising:

  • a rotor being configured and disposed to transport plastic beverage bottles;

    a labeling arrangement being configured and disposed to apply wraparound labels to plastic beverage bottles in said rotor;

    said labeling arrangement comprising;

    a first roll receptacle being configured and disposed to hold a supply roll of labeling material, which labeling material comprises labels and a backing material on which labels are disposed;

    a storage chamber being configured and disposed to receive labeling material from said first roll receptacle;

    a first feed unit being disposed adjacent said storage arrangement being configured to receive labeling material from said storage chamber and to advance labeling material in a direction of transport at a first predetermined speed;

    a second feed unit being configured and disposed to receive labeling material from said first feed unit and to advance labeling material in a direction of transport at a second predetermined speed, which second predetermined speed is faster than the first predetermined speed;

    a dispenser being disposed adjacent said second feed unit and being configured and disposed to separate labels from backing material and apply labels to plastic beverage bottles;

    a third feed unit being configured and disposed to receive backing material from said dispenser and to advance backing material in a direction of transport at a third predetermined speed, which third predetermined speed is faster than the second predetermined speed;

    at least one sensor being configured and disposed to sense flapping and flutter of backing material as it advances through said labeling machine; and

    a second roll receptacle being configured and disposed to receive backing material from said third feed unit;

    said second feed unit being configured to move at the second predetermined speed to pull on a section of labeling material between said first feed unit and said second feed unit in order to generate a tension force sufficient to minimize flapping or flutter of labeling material between said first feed unit and said second feed unit; and

    said third feed unit being configured to move at the third predetermined speed to pull on a section of backing material between said dispenser and said third feed unit in order to generate a tension force sufficient to minimize flapping or flutter of backing material between said dispenser and said third feed unit.
