Abstract

The present invention relates to an ultra-wideband signal receiver comprising:

• • at least a first set of sampling cells for sampling the waveform of a received signal;
  • at least a second set of sampling cells for sampling the waveform of the received signal, with a predefined delay δ; and
  • at least one correlator for delivering information depending on the correlation between the waveforms thus sampled.

Claims

1. An ultra-wideband signal receiver comprising:

at least a first set of sampling cells for sampling the waveform of a received signal;

at least a second set of sampling cells for sampling the waveform of the received signal, with a predefined delay δ

; and

at least one correlator for delivering information depending on the correlation between the waveforms thus sampled.

2. A receiver according to claim 1, in which signal acquisition by the first and second sets of sampling cells is controlled by two distinct chains of delay elements, respectively associated with said sets of cells.

3. A receiver according to claim 1, in which signal acquisition by the cells of the first and second sets of sampling cells is controlled by a single chain of delay elements.

4. A receiver according to claim 1, in which the delay δ

is programmable.

5. A receiver according to claim 4, in which the delay δ

is constant during a communications session.

6. A receiver according to claim 4, in which the delay δ

varies during a communications session in application of a predefined relationship.

7. A receiver according to claim 1, in which the correlator is a parallel cell correlator.

8. A receiver according to claim 1, in which the first and second sets of sampling cells and the correlator are constructed in the form of a monolithic integrated circuit.

9. A receiver according to claim 1, having no antenna amplifier.

15. A data transmission system comprising:

at least one ultra-wideband receiver as defined in claim 1; and

at least one transmitter arranged to transmit multiplets of at least two mutually correlated impulses that are offset by a predefined delay δ

.

10. A data transmission method comprising:

receiving an ultra-wideband signal comprising at least two mutually correlated impulses carrying useful information, the two impulses being offset in time by a delay δ

;

first sampling of the received signal;

second sampling of the received signal with the delay δ

; and

delivering a signal that depends on the correlation between the two sampled signals.

11. A method according to claim 10, in which the transmitted signal comprises impulse doublets.

12. A method according to claim 10, in which the information is transmitted using on/off encoding.

13. A method according to claim 10, in which the information is transmitted using differential encoding.

14. A method according to claim 11, in which the impulses of at least one transmitted doublet are in phase opposition.
