1. A support for performing an assay, comprising a substrate and a binding polymer directly or indirectly attached to the substrate, wherein the binding polymer has a plurality of reactive groups capable of attaching to a biomolecule and a plurality of ionizable groups, wherein the ratio of reactive groups to ionizable groups is from 0.5 to 10, wherein the binding polymer does not contain a photoreactive group.
