Abstract

An arrangement for introducing a liquid into the body of a patient or for withdrawing a liquid from the body of a patient, including a first structural part carrying a cannula for positioning in the body of the patient, and a second structural part with a connection port for detachably coupling a conduit for supplying or withdrawing a liquid, wherein the first and second structural parts are connected, can be rotated relative to each another and in relative rotational positions form a channel for introducing a liquid from the conduit to the cannula or for withdrawing a liquid from the cannula to the conduit, and whereby movement of the conduit for coupling and uncoupling is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the cannula.

Claims

1. An device for introducing a liquid into the body of a patient or for withdrawing a liquid from the body of a patient, comprising a first structural part carrying a cannula for positioning in the body of the patient, and a second structural part with a connection port for detachably coupling a conduit for supplying or withdrawing the liquid, wherein the first and second structural parts are connected, can be rotated relative to each another and in a selected rotational position form a channel for introducing the liquid from the conduit to the cannula or for withdrawing the liquid from the cannula to the conduit, and wherein movement of the conduit for coupling and uncoupling is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the cannula.

2. The device according to claim 1, and a latch operable to releaseably latch the first and second parts in the selected position.

3. An arrangement for introducing a liquid to the body of a patient or for withdrawing a liquid from the body of a patient, comprising:

a first structural part with a cannula protruding therefrom for arrangement in the body of the patient;

a second structural part with a connection port for detachable coupling of a connector of a conduit for supplying or withdrawing a liquid, wherein

the first structural part and the second structural part are configured and connected to one another such that they are inseparable and can be rotated relative to one another and in every relative position form a channel for introducing a liquid from the connection port to the cannula or for withdrawing a liquid from the cannula to the connection port, and wherein the connection port is designed such that the coupling and uncoupling of the connector associated with the conduit takes place in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the cannula.

5. The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, wherein the first and the second structural part can be rotated relative to one another about an axis of rotation extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cannula.

The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, wherein the cannula projects vertically or non-vertically from a substantially flat outside surface of the first structural part and the first and the second structural part can be rotated relative to one another by an axis of rotation extending vertically to the surface.

7. The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, wherein the first and the second structural part can be rotated relative to one another by one of 360°

or less than 360°

.

8. The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, wherein the connection between the first and the second structural part is designed such that specific torque must be overcome for counterrotation of said structural parts.

9. The arrangement according to claim 8, wherein the torque ranges between 0.01 and 0.05 Nm.

10. The arrangement according to claim 8, wherein the torque ranges between 0.01 and 0.1 Nm.

11. The arrangement as claimed in claim 8, further comprising one of a pre-tensed elastic seal or a ratchet mechanism for generating the torque.

12. The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, further comprising detent means for preventing the rotation of the first and second structural part relative to one another by latching in a specific position.

The arrangement as claimed in claim 12, wherein the detent means is configured such that the first and second structural part are latched in a position relative to one another if no connector of a conduit is coupled to the connection port of the second structural part, and wherein the latching can be canceled by coupling a connector to the connection port.

The arrangement as claimed in claim 12, wherein the detent means is configured such that the first and second structural part are latched in a position relative to one another if a connector of a conduit is coupled to the connection port of the second structural part, and wherein that the latching can be canceled by uncoupling of the connector from the connection port.

15. The arrangement as claimed in claim 12, wherein the detent means is configured such that it can be activated and deactivated by one or more actuation elements.

16. The arrangement as claimed in claim 12, wherein the detent means is configured such that the latching can take place positively at discrete positions or frictionally at any position.

17. The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, wherein the cannula is a flexible cannula and a removable guide needle is forceable through the cannula to enable the cannula to be inserted into the tissue of a patient.

18. The arrangement as claimed in claim 17, wherein an outside surface of the first structural part from which the cannula extends carries an adhesive layer for fastening the first structural part to the skin of a patient.

19. The arrangement as claimed in claim 3, further comprising another connector for coupling another conduit for supplying or withdrawing a liquid.

21. The method of claim 16, wherein the therapeutic substance is insulin.

4. An arrangement for introducing a liquid to the body of a patient or for withdrawing a liquid from the body of a patient, comprising:

a first structural part with a cannula protruding therefrom for arrangement in the body of the patient;

a second structural part with a connection port for detachable coupling of a connector of a conduit for supplying or withdrawing a liquid, wherein

the first structural part and the second structural part are configured and connected to one another such that they are rotatable relative to one another and in every relative rotational position form a channel for introducing a liquid from the connection port to the cannula or for withdrawing a liquid from the cannula to the connection port, and wherein the connection port is designed such that the coupling and uncoupling of the connector associated with the conduit takes place vertically to the longitudinal axis of the cannula.

20. A method of delivering a therapeutic substance to a patent, comprising the steps of:

providing a device comprising a first structural part with a cannula extending therefrom for positioning in the body of the patient, a second structural part with a connection port for detachably coupling a conduit for carrying the therapeutic substance, wherein the first structural part and the second structural part are configured and connected to one another such that they are inseparable, can be rotated relative to one another and in a selected rotational position form a channel for introducing the therapeutic substance from the connection port to the cannula, and wherein the connection port is designed such that the movement of coupling and uncoupling of the conduit takes place in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the cannula;

applying the device to the patient'"'"'s body so that the cannula is positioned in the body;

operably coupling a supply of the therapeutic substance to the conduit; and

causing the therapeutic substance to flow into the patient'"'"'s body.
