Abstract

A computer-based system can comprise a patch management system to a load patch to a software program; and an installer to install components of the software program. The installer can interpret metadata to instruct the patch management system to automatically load the patch to the software program.

Claims

1. A computer-based system comprising:

a patch management system to load a patch to a software program; and

an installer to install components of the software program, the installer adapted to interpret metadata to instruct the patch management system to automatically load the patch to the software program.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the patch management system also has a graphical user interface to get user input to load patches.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the patch management system updates version information based on loaded patches.

4. The system of claim 1, wherein software components and the patch are loaded in a combined operation.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein an install repository indicates what software components are stored on a system and is used to keep track of component dependence.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the metadata indicates what patches to load.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the metadata is used to determine what patches to place in an install package.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the metadata is a XML file.

9. A computer readable storage medium including:

install code to install components of the software program, the install code adapted to interpret metadata to instruct a patch management system to automatically load a patch to the software program.

10. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the patch management system also has a graphical user interface to load patches.

11. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the patch management system updates version information based on loaded patches.

12. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein software components and patch are loaded in a combined operation.

13. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein an install repository indicates what software components are stored on a system and is used to keep track of component dependence.

14. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the metadata indicates what patches to load.

15. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the metadata is used to determine the patches to install into an install package.

16. The computer readable storage medium of claim 9, wherein the metadata is a XML file.
