Abstract

A system for facilitating patient centric healthcare information maintenance. For example, a health management software system may be operated to receive, organize, and use patient medical information. The health management software may comprise a database for storing, retrieving, organizing, displaying, and, generally, for managing a patient'"'"'s health. In one exemplary embodiment, the health management software system is used in conjunction with a healthcare maintenance device, such as a blood glucose monitoring system. The blood glucose monitoring system may contain several database objects in the form of data records. Typically in a portable blood glucose monitor, each data record contains a time and a concentration data element, or a time-amount point. Similarly, an insulin pump, which is another exemplary embodiment of a healthcare maintenance device, may maintain data records with time and dosage information, or a time-dosage point.

Claims

1. A device for assisting in health care maintenance, comprising:

a processor for executing instructions;

a database for storing information; and

means for obtaining data from a health care maintenance (HCM) device, said obtaining means including software having instructions for transferring device data from the HCM device to the computer, instructions for integrating the device data into a patient data record; and

instructions for selectively disintegrating the device data.

2. The device of claim 1 wherein the device data includes medical information relating to a specific patient, and said obtaining means includes instructions for identifying discrete medical information in the device data.

4. The device of claim 2 wherein said obtaining means is capable of enabling user selection of specific medical information for deletion.

5. The device of claim 2 wherein said obtaining means is capable of enabling user selection of specific medical information for reassignment to a different patient.

6. The device of claim 2 wherein the device data includes discrete time records associated with discrete medical information specifying amount data, and said obtaining means includes instructions for identifying discrete time-amount records.

7. The device of claim 6 wherein said obtaining means is capable of enabling user selection of specific time-amount records for deletion.

8. The device of claim 6 wherein said obtaining means is capable of enabling user selection of specific time-amount records for reassignment to a different patient.

9. The device of claim 1 wherein said obtaining means includes instructions enabling reassignment of the device data to a different patient.

10. The device of claim 1 wherein said obtaining means includes instructions for identifying a set of download data records including device data, and said obtaining means includes instructions for deleting the set of download data records.

11. The device of claim 1 wherein said obtaining means includes instructions for identifying a set of download data records including device data, and said obtaining means includes instructions for selectively deleting individual download data records as selected by the user.

12. A method of importing health care maintenance information from a portable device to a computer having a database of health care maintenance records relating to at least one patient, comprising the steps of:

reading a plurality of data records from a portable device;

associating the plurality of data records with the patient;

displaying the plurality of data records to the computer user; and

allowing user selection of at least one of the data records for further action.

13. The method of claim 12 wherein said allowing step includes allowing the user to delete the selected data records.

14. The method of claim 12 wherein said allowing step includes allowing the user to reassign the selected data records to another patient.

15. The method of claim 12 wherein said allowing step includes allowing the user to select all of the plurality of data records for deletion.

16. The method of claim 12 wherein said allowing step includes allowing the user to select all of the plurality of data records for reassignment to another patient.

17. The method of claim 12 wherein said allowing step includes allowing the user to reassign the portable device to another patient.

18. The method of claim 12 wherein said reading step includes obtaining medical information from the portable device.

19. The method of claim 18 wherein said reading step includes obtaining time data records from the portable device.

20. The method of claim 19 wherein said reading step includes associating the medical information with the time data records.
