Abstract

Methods and systems for determining the suitability of information to be received by a mobile client are disclosed. For example, an exemplary method may include receiving on the mobile client, information relating to a transaction between the mobile client and a transaction host, using a near-field-communication (NFC) link, updating a user profile on the mobile client based on the received transaction information, and performing at least one of receiving, selecting and displaying one or more targeted content messages on the mobile client based upon the updated user profile.

Claims

1. A method for determining the suitability of information to be processed by a mobile client, comprising:

receiving on the mobile client, information relating to a transaction between the mobile client and a transaction host using a near-field-communication (NFC) link;

updating a user profile on the mobile client based on the received transaction information; and

performing at least one of receiving, selecting and displaying one or more targeted content messages on the mobile client based upon the updated user profile.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the transaction host is a Point-of-Sale host.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the transaction information is based on at least one of a merchant identity, credit card provider, type of item, name of item, transaction value, location of transaction, date of transaction, time or transaction, and telephone number.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the one or more targeted content messages include an advertisement.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the one or more targeted content messages include meta-data.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of updating the user profile includes providing a location of the transaction to the mobile client.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein:

the transaction host is a Point-of-Sale host;

the transaction information is based on at least one of a merchant identity, credit card provider, type of item, name of item, transaction value, location of transaction, date of transaction, time or transaction, and telephone number;

the one or more targeted content messages include an advertisement.

the one or more targeted content messages include meta-data; and

the step of updating the user profile includes providing a location of the transaction to the mobile client.

8. A mobile client, comprising:

means for receiving on the mobile client, information relating to a transaction between the mobile client and a transaction host, using a near-field-communication (NFC) link;

means for updating a user profile on the mobile client based on the received transaction information; and

means for performing at least one of receiving, selecting and displaying one or more targeted content messages on the mobile client based upon the updated user profile.

9. The mobile client according to claim 8, wherein the transaction host is a Point-of-Sale host.

10. The mobile client according to claim 8, wherein the transaction information is based on at least one of a merchant identity, credit card provider, type of item, name of item, transaction value, location of transaction, date of transaction, time or transaction, and telephone number.

11. The mobile client according to claim 8, wherein the one or more targeted content messages include an advertisement.

12. The mobile client according to claim 8, wherein the one or more targeted content messages include meta-data.

13. The mobile client according to claim 8, wherein the means for updating the user profile updates the user profile based on the location of the transaction.

14. A mobile client, comprising:

a memory;

near field communication (NFC) circuitry capable of establishing a two-way NFC link; and

a processor coupled to the memory and NFC circuitry, and operable to;

receive information relating to a transaction between the mobile client and a transaction host using the NFC link;

update a user profile on the mobile client based on the received transaction information; and

perform at least one of receiving, selecting and displaying one or more targeted content messages on the mobile client based upon the updated user profile.

15. The mobile client according to claim 14, wherein the transaction host is a Point-of-Sale host.

16. The mobile client according to claim 14, wherein the transaction information is based on at least one of a merchant identity, credit card provider, type of item, name of item, transaction value, location of transaction, date of transaction, time or transaction, and telephone number.

17. The mobile client according to claim 14, wherein the one or more targeted content messages include an advertisement.

18. The mobile client according to claim 14, wherein the one or more targeted content messages include meta-data.

19. The mobile client according to claim 14, wherein the means for updating the user profile updates the user profile based on the location of the transaction.

20. A computer program product, comprising:

a computer-readable medium comprising;

instructions for receiving on the mobile client, information relating to a transaction between the mobile client and a transaction host, using a near-field-communication (NFC) link;

instructions for updating a user profile on the mobile client based on the received transaction information; and

instructions for performing at least one of receiving, selecting and displaying one or more targeted content messages on the mobile client based upon the updated user profile.
