Abstract

Information related to a person can be processed and monetized according to several methods. The person is provided control over monetization of information that is related to him or her. This information may be received and stored by a storage entity, such as an information bank. Upon confirmation of a purchase agreement between the person and a purchaser, the information is made available to the purchaser, and the person receives value in exchange for the information. The information may be collected and stored for later bulk or incremental monetization at the control of the person.

Claims

1. A method comprising:

receiving information related to a person;

providing the person control over sale of the information;

receiving a confirmation of a purchase agreement between the person and a purchaser; and

making the information available to the purchaser, wherein the person receives value in exchange for the information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the information is selected from the group consisting of:

records of transactions by the person, proximity information for the person while the person is in a retail location, dwell information for the person while the person is in a retail location, answers to one or more questions posed to the person, and social networking information related to the person.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the information is received from an electronic device selected from the group consisting of:

mobile devices, retail sale equipment, Bluetooth sensors, and RFID sensors.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving an offer from the purchaser to purchase the information; and

transmitting the offer to the person.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving an offer from the person to sell the information; and

transmitting the offer to the purchaser.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the information is collected with a plurality of other information to form collected information, and wherein the collected information is made available to the purchaser pursuant to the purchase agreement.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving initial information related to the person; and

transmitting a follow-up request to the person based on the initial information, wherein the answer to the request comprises the information received from the person.

8. A computer system comprising at least one processor configured to execute the method of claim 1.

9. A computer-readable medium containing computer-executable instructions configured to cause a device to execute the method according to claim 1.

10. A method comprising:

receiving information related to a person;

presenting an offer to a plurality of purchasers to purchase the information;

receiving an acceptance of the offer from at least one of the purchasers; and

making the information available to the at least one purchaser accepting the offer, wherein the person receives value for the information.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the offer is received from the person prior to presenting the offer to the purchasers.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the offer comprises a proposed value to be received by the person in exchange for the information, and wherein the proposed value is equal to the value received by the person.

13. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

receiving the value from the purchaser; and

transmitting the value to the person.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the information is selected from the group consisting of:

records of transactions by the person, proximity information for the person while the person is in a retail location, dwell information for the person while the person is in a retail location, answers to one or more requests posed to the person, and social networking information related to the person.

15. A computer system comprising at least one processor configured to execute the method of claim 10.

16. A computer-readable medium containing computer-executable instructions configured to cause a device to execute the method according to claim 10.

18. The method of claim 10, wherein the offer is received from the purchaser prior to presenting the offer to the person.

19. The method of claim 10, wherein the offer comprises a proposed value to be received by the person in exchange for the information, and wherein the proposed value is equal to the value received by the person.

20. The method of claim 10, further comprising:

presenting a plurality of offers to the person to sell the information to the plurality of purchasers;

receiving at least one acceptance of at least one of the offers from the person; and

making the information available to the purchaser corresponding to each offer accepted by the person, wherein the person receives value for each offer accepted.

21. The method of claim 10, wherein the information is selected from the group consisting of:

records of transactions by the person, proximity information for the person while the person is in a retail location, dwell information for the person while the person is in a retail location, answers to one or more requests posed to the person, and social networking information related to the person.

22. A computer system comprising at least one processor configured to execute the method of claim 10.

23. A computer-readable medium containing computer-executable instructions configured to cause a device to execute the method according to claim 10.

17. A method comprising:

receiving information related to a person;

presenting an offer to the person to sell the information to a purchaser;

receiving an acceptance of the offer from the person; and

making the information available to the purchaser, wherein the person receives value for the information.

24. A method comprising:

periodically receiving information related to a person;

storing the periodically received information in memory to form collected information;

providing control to the person to monetize portions of the collected information by forming agreements with purchasers, each agreement corresponding to a designated portion of the collected information; and

making each designated portion of the information available to a purchaser associated with the agreement corresponding to each designated portion, wherein the person receives value pursuant to each agreement.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the information is periodically received upon occurrence of periodic events related to the person, wherein the information is generated in response to the events.

26. The method of claim 24, wherein at least a portion of the information is received in response to requests transmitted to the person based on other portions of the information.

27. The method of claim 24, wherein at least one designated portion of the information comprises a profile for the person created by assembling portions of the information.

28. The method of claim 24, wherein a first group of the purchase agreements result from offers presented from the person to corresponding purchasers, and a second group of the purchase agreements result from offers presented from corresponding purchasers to the person.

29. The method of claim 24, wherein the information is received from a plurality of collection points.

30. A computer system comprising at least one processor configured to execute the method of claim 24.

31. A computer-readable medium containing computer-executable instructions configured to cause a device to execute the method according to claim 24.
