Abstract

An integrated console provides multiple users an ability to bring in signals from a plurality of disparate hardware subsystems the monitoring and control signals, all to be controlled from a virtual console on a single computer screen. Multiple users may arrange subwindows for any or all controlled hardware and arrange those subwindows on a computer screen, in accordance with each user'"'"'s preference. The system may store personalized display layouts, receiving commands from multiple workstations, and routing the commands received to the appropriate subsystems. Meanwhile, the system provides apparatus and methods to automatically detect changes on the subwindows and notify a user thereof.

Claims

21. A method comprising:

receiving, by a computer system, a plurality of display signals from a plurality of electrical devices, at least one display signal of the plurality of display signals communicating a plurality of sequential screen images;

generating, by the computer system, a composite display signal defining a plurality of windows, wherein each display signal of the plurality of display signals corresponds to at least one window of the plurality of windows;

transmitting, by the computer system, the composite display signal to at least one display;

comparing, by the computer system, a first screen image of the plurality of sequential screen images with a second screen image of the plurality of sequential screen images, the second screen image being subsequent in time to the first screen image;

determining, by the computer system, whether a difference between the second screen image and the first screen image exceeds a threshold; and

initiating, by the computer system, an alarm when it is determined that the difference between the second screen image and the first screen image exceeds the threshold.

22. The method of claim 21, wherein the alarm is audible.

23. The method of claim 22, wherein the alarm is visual.

24. The method of claim 21, wherein the alarm is visual.

25. The method of claim 24, wherein the alarm is contained within the at least one display.

26. The method of claim 21, wherein comparing comprises counting pixels that change color between the first screen image and the second screen images.

27. The method of claim 26, wherein the threshold corresponds to a number of pixels.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the threshold corresponds to a number of contiguous pixels.

29. The method of claim 21, further comprising storing, by the computer within a buffer, the first screen image.

30. The method of claim 29, wherein comparing further comprises comparing the first screen image to the second screen image as the second screen image arrives at the computer system.

31. The method of claim 30, wherein the first screen image and the second screen image are contiguous within the plurality of sequential screen images.

32. The method of claim 21, wherein the first screen image and the second screen image are contiguous within the plurality of sequential screen images.

33. A method comprising:

receiving, by a computer system, a plurality of display signals from a plurality of electrical devices, at least one display signal of the plurality of display signals communicating a plurality of sequential screen images;

generating, by the computer system, a composite display signal defining a plurality of windows, wherein each display signal of the plurality of display signals corresponds to at least one window of the plurality of windows;

transmitting, by the computer system, the composite display signal to at least one display;

identifying, by the computer system, a first screen image of the plurality of sequential screen images and a second screen image of the plurality of sequential screen images, the first and second screen images both comprising pixels;

counting, by the computer system, pixels that change color between the first screen image and the second screen images; and

initiating, by the computer system, a first alarm when the number of pixels that change color exceeds a first threshold.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein counting comprises counting contiguous pixels that change color between the first screen image and the second screen images.

35. The method of claim 34, wherein initiating comprises initiating the first alarm when the number of contiguous pixels that change color exceeds the first threshold.

36. The method of claim 33, further comprising initiating, by the computer system, a second alarm when the number of pixels that change color falls below a second threshold.

37. A method comprising:

receiving, by a computer system, a plurality of display signals from a plurality of electrical devices, at least one display signal of the plurality of display signals communicating a plurality of sequential screen images;

generating, by the computer system, a composite display signal defining a plurality of windows, wherein each display signal of the plurality of display signals corresponds to at least one window of the plurality of windows;

transmitting, by the computer system, the composite display signal to at least one display;

identifying, by the computer system, a first screen image of the plurality of sequential screen images and a second screen image of the plurality of sequential screen images, the first and second screen images both comprising pixels;

counting, by the computer system, pixels that change color between the first screen image and the second screen images; and

initiating, by the computer system, a first alarm when the number of pixels that change color falls below a first threshold.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein counting comprises counting contiguous pixels that change color between the first screen image and the second screen images.

39. The method of claim 38, wherein initiating comprises initiating the first alarm when the number of contiguous pixels that change color falls below the first threshold.

40. The method of claim 37, further comprising initiating, by the computer system, a second alarm when the number of pixels that change color exceeds a second threshold.
