An ultrawideband radio transmitting apparatus comprising a modulation unit for modulating a digital signal carrying digital data, wherein said modulation unit receives a unit of the digital data including a first bit and a second bit, selects a frequency variable range from the group consisting of a first frequency variable range and a second frequency variable range based on the first bit, and, selects whether a frequency is swept to a higher frequency or to a lower frequency within the frequency variable range based on the second bit.

Abstract
A digital data that includes at least two bits is input to a chirp modulation unit. On the basis of either one of these two bits, a frequency variable range is selected as either a frequency variable range between a frequency f1 and a frequency f2, a frequency variable range between a frequency f2 and a frequency f3 (the frequency f3 is the highest, the frequency f2 the second highest, and the frequency f1 the lowest of these three frequencies). On the basis of the other bit, it is selected whether a frequency is swept to a higher frequency or to a lower frequency within the frequency variable range selected by the one of the two bits.

a demodulation unit for separating the chirp signal into a first phase signal and a second phase signal orthogonal to the first phase signal; a memory unit for staring the first phase signal and the second phase signal; a phase correction unit for correcting a phase of the first phase signal and the second phase signal that are stored in the memory unit; and a chirp-direction detecting unit for detecting whether the phase-corrected first phase signal and the phase-corrected second phase signal are the up-chirp signal or the down-chirp signal. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7)

An ultrawideband radio receiving apparatus for receiving and decoding a direct-sequence-modulated signal generated based on a digital signal, wherein the digital signal comprises a concatenated code that includes a first outer code including an inner code having a predetermined bit and a second outer code orthogonal to the first outer code;
- separates the received digital signal into a first phase signal and a second phase signal orthogonal to the first phase signal;
identifies a signal indicative of presence or absence of the inner code by despreading both of the first phase signal and the second phase signal by a matched filter that corresponds to the inner code and summing the first and second phase signals that have been despread; and
detects the first outer code and the second outer code on the basis of the signal indicative of the presence or the absence of the inner code.
