1. A centralized train control system comprising a centralized server, wherein the server comprises an adjudicator, which is implemented as software that is running on a processor, wherein the adjudicator ensures that a request from a non-vital function of the centralized train control system, if ultimately issued as a command from the server to trackside or train-borne systems, is issued as a vital directive, wherein the adjudicator:

  • (a) receives a request from a non-vital component of the centralized train control system;

    (b) evaluates the request for the purpose of validation or rejection of the request using vital resources; and

    (c) transmits a vital command that validates or rejects the request.
