Abstract

This disclosure relates frequency channel qualification in wire-free communications system.

Claims

1. A method for qualification of a transmission quality of frequency channels, comprising:

measuring a field strength of a received signal;

comparing the field strength with a threshold value field strength; and

qualifying a transmission quality of a frequency channel based on the field strength comparison.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein measuring the field strength of the received signal comprises measuring using an RSSI (Radio Signal Strength Indication) measurement.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the measurement the field strength of the received data signal is carried out in a transmission time slot of a time pattern on which transmission and reception are based, by way of a time slot method in a measuring unit.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising selecting frequency channels for a radio system based on the qualification of the transmission quality of the frequency channels.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein the selection of a frequency channel is made independently of the information about a data packet error rate or a bit error rate, if the field strength of the received data signal is below the threshold value field strength.

6. A method, comprising:

evaluating a field strength of a received signal associated with a wireless communication on a frequency channel; and

determining whether the frequency channel qualifies for subsequent use based on the evaluation.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the evaluation comprises:

measuring the field strength of the received signal; and

comparing the measured field strength to a predetermined field strength threshold.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein determining whether the frequency channel qualifies for subsequent use further comprises:

maintaining the frequency channel within a group of available frequency channels for adaptive frequency hopping if the measured field strength exceeds the predetermined threshold and an error rate is less than a predetermined error rate threshold.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein determining whether the frequency channel qualifies for subsequent use further comprises:

ignoring an error rate if the measured field strength is less than the predetermined field strength threshold; and

maintaining the frequency channel within a group of available frequency channels for adaptive frequency hopping.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein determining whether the frequency channel qualifies for subsequent use further comprises masking out the frequency channel if the measured field strength is greater than the predetermined field strength threshold.

11. The method of claim 6, wherein the evaluation is performed within a transmission time slot.

12. The method of claim 6, wherein the evaluation comprises maintaining the frequency channel as one of a plurality of available channels in an adaptive frequency hopping methodology if the field strength of the received signal is less than a predetermined threshold independently of whether an error rate exceeds or falls below a predetermined error rate threshold.
