Abstract
A device is proposed for detecting a collision of a vehicle with an obstacle, in which an ultrasonic receiver unit is used to detect the sound produced by the collision, and a collision of the vehicle is thus detected through the evaluation of the ultrasonic signals.

8. A device for detecting a collision of a vehicle with an obstacle, comprising:

an ultrasonic receiver unit situated in the vehicle, whereby a sound produced by a deformation of a body part of the vehicle is detected by the ultrasonic receiver unit; an evaluation unit operatively coupled to the ultrasonic receiver unit, wherein the ultrasonic receiver unit transmits to the evaluation unit a signal related to the detected sound produced by the deformation, and wherein the evaluation unit evaluates the transmitted signal related to the detected sound in order to determine whether a collision of the vehicle with an obstacle has occurred.

9. The device as recited in claim 9, wherein the ultrasonic receiver unit is situated one of:
- a) in a bumper area of the vehicle; and

14. A method for determining a collision of a vehicle with an obstacle, comprising:

detecting, by an ultrasonic receiver unit situated in the vehicle, a sound produced by a deformation of a body part of the vehicle; transmitting, from the ultrasonic receiver unit to an evaluation unit, a signal related to the detected sound produced by the deformation; evaluating, by the evaluation unit, the transmitted signal related to the detected sound in order to determine whether a collision of the vehicle with an obstacle has occurred.
