Abstract

Disclosed are a network-based device, method and computer-readable medium for operating a network device in an IP multimedia subsystem. The method embodiment includes receiving an instruction for a de-registration action for a Public User ID (PUID) registered at a device in the IMS, the instruction being initiated remotely from a device different from the device to which the de-registration applies and performing the de-registration action wherein the PUID is de-registered from the device in the IMS network.

Claims

1. A method of operating a network device in an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), the method comprising:

receiving an instruction for a de-registration action for a Public User ID (PUID) registered at a device in the IMS, the instruction being initiated remotely from the device at which the PUID is registered; and

performing the de-registration action wherein the said PUID is de-registered from the Device in the IMS network.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein performing the de-registration further comprises allowing the registration at the device to expire.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein performing the de-registration further comprises transmitting a new registration instruction that causes the registration to be cancelled.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the transmitted new registration comprises a registration of zero seconds.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein instruction is initiated from a mobile device associated with the user that differs from the registered device.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the instruction is initiated based on one of a predetermined event and input from a user at a device remote from the registered device.

7. A network-based device in an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), comprising:

a module configured to receive an instruction for a de-registration action for a Public User ID (PUID) registered at a device in the IMS, the instruction being initiated remotely from the registered device; and

a module configured to perform the de-registration action wherein the PUID is de-registered from the device in the IMS network.

8. The network-based device of claim 7, wherein the module configured to perform the de-registration further allows the registration at the device to expire.

9. The network-based device of claim 7, wherein the module configured to perform the de-registration further transmits a new registration instruction to the registered device that causes the registration to be cancelled.

10. The network-based device of claim 9, wherein the transmitted new registration comprises a registration of zero seconds.

11. The network-based device of claim 7, wherein the instruction is initiated from the device associated with the user that differs from the device at which the PUID is registered.

12. The network-based device of claim 7, wherein the instruction is initiated based on one of a predetermined event and input from a user at a device remote from the device at which the PUID is registered.

13. A computer-readable medium storing an instruction for controlling a network-based device in an IP multimedia subsystem (IMS), the instructions comprising:

receiving an instruction for a de-registration action for a Public User ID (PUID) registered at a device in the IMS, the instruction being initiated remotely from the registered device; and

performing the de-registration action wherein the PUID is de-registered from the device in the IMS network.

14. The computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein performing the de-registration further allows the registration at the device to expire.

15. The computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein performing the de-registration further transmits a new registration instruction to the registered device that causes the registration to be cancelled.

16. The computer-readable medium of claim 15, wherein the transmitted new registration comprises a registration of zero seconds.

17. The computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the instruction is initiated from the device associated with the user that differs from the device at which the PUID is registered.

18. The computer-readable medium of claim 13, wherein the instruction is initiated based on one of a predetermined event and input from a user at a device remote from the device at which the PUID is registered.
