1. A computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions that when executed by a computer cause the computer to perform a method, the method comprising:

  • monitoring an external batch process to detect an occurrence of a consumable product manufacturing event (CPME) for which a record is required, the CPME being associated with the external batch process;

    in response to detecting the occurrence of the CPME,collecting a set of data from the external batch process, where the set of data includes information to be included in the required record; and

    generating an extensible markup language (XML) document from the set of data, where the XML document stores data representing a state of the external batch process, and where the XML document is to include information relating to the required record; and

    storing the XML document in a computer-readable medium.
