Abstract

A financial transaction card is provided according to various embodiments described herein. The financial transaction card includes a card body with at least a front surface and a back surface. The financial transaction card may also include a near field communications transponder and/or a magnetic stripe, as well as a digital display configured to display alphanumeric characters on the front surface of the card body. The financial transaction card may also include a processor that is communicatively coupled with the near field communications transponder or magnetic stripe and the digital display. The processor may be configured to calculate one-time passwords and communicate the one-time passwords to both the near filed communications transponder or magnetic stripe and the digital display.

Claims

1. A financial transaction card comprising:

a card body with at least a front surface and a back surface;

a near field communications transponder;

a digital display configured to display alphanumeric characters on the front surface of the card body; and

a processor communicatively coupled with the near field communications transponder and the digital display;

the processor being configured to calculate one-time passwords and communicate the one-time passwords to both the near field communications transponder and the digital display.

2. The financial transaction card according to claim 1, wherein the one-time passwords calculated by the processor are at least a function of time.

3. The financial transaction card according to claim 1, wherein the processor communicates one-time passwords with the near field communications transponder.

4. The financial transaction card according to claim 1, wherein the processor communicates one-time passwords with the digital display.

5. The financial transaction card according to claim 1, wherein the front surface of the card body includes a partial account number.

6. The financial transaction card according to claim 5, wherein the one-time password calculated by the processor is a partial account number and the one-time password appended with the partial account number on the front surface of the card comprises a pseudo transaction account number.

7. The financial transaction card according to claim 1, wherein the processor is configured to calculate a dynamic card verification value.

8. The financial transaction card according to claim 7, wherein the dynamic card verification value calculated by the processor is displayed on the display.

9. The financial transaction card according to claim 7, wherein the dynamic card verification value calculated by the processor is at least a function of the time the calculation was made.

10. The financial transaction card according to claim 7, wherein the dynamic card verification value calculated by the processor is at least a function of the card'"'"'s expiration date.

11. A financial transaction card comprising:

a card body with at least a front surface and a back surface;

a magnetic stripe;

a digital display configured to display alphanumeric characters on the front surface of the card body; and

a processor communicatively coupled with the magnetic stripe and the digital display;

the processor being configured to calculate one-time passwords and communicate the one-time passwords to both the magnetic stripe and the digital display.

12. The financial transaction card according to claim 11, wherein the one-time passwords calculated by the processor are at least a function of time.

13. The financial transaction card according to claim 11, wherein the processor communicates one-time passwords with the near field communications transponder.

14. The financial transaction card according to claim 11, wherein the processor communicates one-time passwords with the digital display.

15. The financial transaction card according to claim 11, wherein the front surface of the card body includes a partial account number.

16. The financial transaction card according to claim 15, wherein the one-time password calculated by the processor is a partial account number and the one-time password appended with the partial account number on the front surface of the card comprises a pseudo transaction account number.

17. The financial transaction card according to claim 11, wherein the processor is configured to calculate a dynamic card verification value.

18. The financial transaction card according to claim 17, wherein the dynamic card verification value calculated by the processor is displayed on the display.

19. The financial transaction card according to claim 17, wherein the dynamic card verification value calculated by the processor is at least a function of the time the calculation was made.

20. The financial transaction card according to claim 17, wherein the dynamic card verification value calculated by the processor is at least a function of the card'"'"'s expiration date.

21. A method for providing a pseudo transaction account number, the method comprising:

calculating a first portion of the pseudo account number, wherein the first portion of the pseudo account number combined with a second portion of the account number comprises the account number;

calculating a dynamic card verification number;

displaying the first portion of the pseudo account number; and

displaying the card verification value.

22. The method according to claim 21, wherein the first portion of the pseudo account number and the card verification value are displayed on the surface of a transaction card.

23. The method according to claim 21, wherein the account number is associated with a credit card account and the dynamic card verification number is calculated using a function based at least on an expiration date of the credit card account.

24. The method according to claim 21, wherein the dynamic card verification number is calculated using a function based on time.

25. The method according to claim 21, wherein the first portion of the pseudo account number is calculated using a function based on time.

26. The method according to claim 21, further comprising displaying the time.
